Headfirst they went against the grain...my brother's team of scrappers, backed with an arrogance only ever seen by supporters of our own.
Maybe my appreciation is based on the tragic respect for an underdog, given our 7 years of agony, puking bile and hate in the face of cocky opposition supporters...
I feel nothing but respect for a team that defied the bias of the public and (general) AFL community.
I don't think I have ever seen a competition so hellbent on creating some bullshit sense of equilibrium... so badly to the point where a club could be penalised to the point of capitulation... In comparison to our existence Hawthorn could have been the Melbourne Hawks... credit to their administration for keeping them afloat. The game is alive and breathing, along with all Melbourne clubs.
My gripe is my own pre-conception that the AFL will buy this up and coming GC17 team a flag. I cannot comprehend the premonitions that our premiership window could be compromised by the up and coming 2009 and 2010 drafts... I can only hope that we can impose like Hawthorn have done and snare ourselves a premiership against the grain.
C'mon you blue boys!!! Take some inspiration and clinch a flag!
