On the company's reader mail 'Scribes' section, it was asked if an agreement could ever be reached to bring the title to Xbox Live Arcade or Wii's Virtual Console. Rare, very eloquently, gave the bad news.

"That was some time ago, my friend," it said. "Fate was against us that day. Destiny conspired to raise the hurdles even as we attempted to clear them, resulting in unpleasant groinal injury. I suspect we're long past the stage where an agreement was on the cards, but you never know. Stranger things have happened... somewhere... probably."

With the level of customisability and modes in Perfect Dark, it's kinda hard going back to Goldeneye. Unfortunately it hasn't aged all that well. Though if it had it's gfx updated like this one, I wouldn't complain if they released it.
Some of the maps are the same.


Apparently some head honcho within Nintendo forbade it.

I would buy an Xbox360 if that ever happened

unfortunately the chances are next to none. the licensing for it is ridiculous. where Rare created Perfect Dark from scratch and owned all the rights for it, they bought the rights for Golden Eye and james bond from Flemmings' estate and MGM Sony and they have subsequently sold those rights on to EA

not to mention the Golden Eye theme was written by Bono and the Edge and sung by Tina Turner

to get Golden Eye on XBL you have to deal with (at least) 6 parties over the rights and licensing as well as find someone who will port it over for what will end up being next no financial gain
