IF Perrie has another goalless game or two, given Watts' confidence seems to be good at the moment (albeit in defense), I think we should give Watts a forward-line gig.

Look, I've admittedly got huge reservations about Watts, but Perrie's been fairly average so far this season so I think there'd be no harm in giving Watts a gig at CHF, or even stick Hentschel there and give Watts a floating role. If we're likely to lose him at the end of the season, we need to at least see what he's worth.

I watched the Eags play Wests yesterday.

Stevens played a far better game than Watts amd would be a better option.

I'd have real concerns if we took Sarge out and replaced him with Watts.

A Watts/Hentschel half forward line would be out muscled all too easily.

Watts has two preseasons under his belt now, yet by all reports still has all the muscle of a stick insect. Does anyone have his 2003/4 playing weight compared to this years? Has he made any significant progress or is he another case of the AFC weights program failing to deliver any gains?

Several other players have now bulked up, Watts hasn't. Which suggests he either has the wrong frame for muscle development (possible, as he has a bottom-heavy body shape), or he doesn't have a good work ethic (word around the traps, and he's oftentimes out on the p*ss).

But we need to see how he plays if the rumours about him wanting to leave are true. His trade value is unlikely to get any worse than it probably already is.

That's what I'm concerned about. Certain players seem to have an aversion to either red meat or bulking up, and at present Watts looks to be a vegan with benchophobia.

You can't put a price on Fergie at the moment. As touched on in a previous thread, he's in the same boat as the vast majority of 2003 KPP draftees - could be grand, could be awful, simply won't know for another 9-12 months, in which time he could be worth the first rounder we got him for, or nothing.

Hopefully he keeps up his apparently good SANFL form and shows some of the stuff that made Fanta and co. so excited about him, allowing us to play a very good KPP, or cash in on one.

Perrie played a pretty decent game for us today - can't see him being dropped.

If you bothered to read my actual post, I said IF Perrie had another so-so game and didn't kick any goals.

I thought Sarge was very good today. I would have liked to have seen him a few more marks early. However he kept working hard, took a few grabs and slotted some goals in the second half. Well done.

Well there it is...McGregor is gone for a little time with a calf strain. Time to bring Watts in.

Don't know about Watts for McGregor, unless Watts played a different position than McGregor does. No way would Watts have been able to control Tredders so easily last week, he is far too weak.

Not sure who would be a good replacement for McGregor though

Well Watts has been playing CHB for the Eagles and made the best this week.

Trent Hentschel will go to centre halfback as he did today and did a very serviceable job on Adam Goodes and Fergus Watts will go to a half forward flank, the position Hentschel was playing. With the Western Bulldogs lack of big guys it could be a surprise move and stretch them.

But I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mark Stevens given another go as a forward but Fergus Watts is the future.

Just for curiosity, did anyone else think that the first goal that Perrie kicked - our second goal might have just nicked the inside of the goal post?

I've watched it several times and I just can't work out whether it took a slight deviation by touching the post, or through just plain being a tumbling mongrel punt!! :D

Perrie is safe after 4 goals today.

If McGregor is injured, it will be interesting choice between S & M Stevens. Leave Watts with the Eagles so he can get some consecutive games form under his belt.

afl.com.au don't have any injuries listed for the Crows, although they aren't the most reliable bunch of reporters.

Hopefully Kenny will be alright for next week but even if he isn't, do we even need a tall defender as a replacement? The Dogs aren't exactly stacked with quality tall forwards.

Get off the drugs man....Watts is not ready for AFL football this year. He won't even come under consideration.

As for knocking Sgt Perrie, what do you have against someone who gives 100% every week in the toughest posi on the ground. He is going to have some games where his value will be from bullocking, bringing the ball to ground and providing space. Other games, like today, he will take marks and kick goals. He is a vital ingredient in our side.

spot on! perrie gets way too much stick on this board ... just coz he looks awkward on occasion doesnt mean he cant play

Tis you who appears to be on the drugs.

1. Watts played AFL last year and was not disgraced. He has had another pre-season. He is ready for AFL football.

2. If Perrie is not performing, then he should be dropped, no matter what effort level he puts in. He performed today. Good on him.

Watts played AFL last year and looked like a fish out of water. He was played too soon and maybe that has affected his confidence. There is one thing playing kids early, but play them when they are ready, not for the sake of it.

As for Mr Perrie....will finish high in Crows B&F this year because the coaches know what his role is and how he performs it. Today wasn't the first game he has polled votes this year.

yep not sure what perrie has done wrong recently to get all this criticism. Against collingwood he took took marks and goaled at the end when we needed it. Provided a target with port, without being great. And today unless you didnt watch the game, he was the match winner, when sydney were coming it was him that stood up and took the marks, not welsh or anyone else. Apart from that, he is about the only forward who isnt either injury prone or badly underweight so we can build around him. I really think he is just getting better and better. If watts isnt doing the hard yards to get himself into AFL condition then we shouldnt play him, if that means he goes home then too bad i reckon.

When he was drafted he was 86kg and now he is up to 92kg.

Apparently he has put on 2kg during the offseason. He burnt all the puppy fat in the process as well. I think in a couple of years time he will be a big boy. He does have broadish shoulders and to me he has a frame that can fill out nicely.

if he's not safe after 4 goals, he's in real trouble ;)
