Is this board just a meeting place of different personas instead of real people? Also, is your persona different here to your real life persona..

Nah, Mocca is a tool in real life too.

Are you going to pay me royalties for this thread?

Maybe.

When you talk about personas taking precedence over "real people" do you apply this theory to when you talk to your Hawthorn buddies like Sly77, Chris and Brett?

I would say the same for you. No offence intended.

But on the majority, Internet personas are very different to real life ones. However given that, they are still at heart the same person.

I am exactly what I am in real life, I'm not pretending to be anything to try and make up for something that is missing in my life.

No, none taken - I can see why people would think that.

My general football persona and my personality in all other areas of my life are miles apart - so much so that my wife has christened my footballing alter ego 'Bob', to distinguish his words and actions from those of her otherwise normal husband.

Haha.

I was a bit of a theatre goer this year and naturally I was surprised at your football persona. But I can understand when you go to the football, your normal persona goes out the door. Maybe you can apply the net persona/real life persona analogy to the real life persona/football persona.

Confusing I know.

I think everybodys uses their own persona on the boards.

But a lot of peoples persona will be interpreted differently by different people because this is a message board. This would make people think that when they meet them, that they're different on here, but this probably is not the case.

Dunno about that.

I think I have many different "me's" anyway, depending on my mood and situation. However, I am usually an energetic annoying little prick. I think Chris isn't much different on here as in person.

As for 'Bob', I once read a book I borrowed from Mocca, which his dear wife wrote inside the cover: "Dear Bob..."

I found it very amusing. :)

Im pretty much the same here as i am in real life. I say what i think and i couldnt care less if people like it or not.

My footy persona is totally different. Im a loud, abusive, arrogant, smart mouth annoying jerk at the football.

Absolutely.

I would beg to differ - I'm pretty much the same online as offline. I just don't post enough to show the full 360 degrees of my persona.

You on the other hand Mocca, are a scary fool both on and off the net :D

Online -I'm a nerdy, statistician Hawthorn supporter who likes obscure punk/garage rock, pro wrestling and sci-fi/fantasy/horror films.

In real life, I'm a bronzed Adonis who is always accompanied by a bevy of stunningly beautiful, buxom Amazons who....

Ahh who am I kidding!

My persona here is the same as off the net.
I'm passionate about my teams but always pessimistic about their chances of success.
I'm reasoned about footy arguements and sit on the fence a little, but that's only because I believe there is never a definitive answer.
When I watch a game involving my side I can be intense and yell at the players on the field, but clap the opposition when they do something I enjoy, and I never really yell abuse or argue with opposition supporters.
However, I nealry broke that rule on Sunday when I had to sit near a moron Sturt supporter who claimed to know everything about his club and the game thought his team's full forward was Brant "Chalmers" and not Chambers, called Barnaby French "Barmnaby", bagged Centrals for sharing Hawthorn's song, when Sturt shares theirs with Melbourne and also fellow SANFL club Norwood and then at the end of the game starting cheering about the fact that his team's colours were going to be on top of the "chimley" (SA supporters will know what this is meant to mean).
For once I really did feel like throttling an opposition supporter!

I agree. You're not much different either. Rohan on the other hand is different, though not as much as he'd like to think.

I'm a bit different. I can't really put a handle on you on the net but for an Old Xav, you aren't too bad in real life.

Nah I'm pretty much a **** stirrer in real life, although I tone it down a bit in certain situations where it wouldn't be appreciated.. gotten a bit more diplomatic as I've gotten older.

Although it is very easy to get the wrong impression of what people are like through words on a computer screen, some people you'd think you would like and don't in real life and vice versa.

Met PA1870 on the weekend and he is one of the nicest people I have met online, would have a beer with him any day.
