Okay, let me state upfront that I'm completely gutted by this loss. One of the worst I can remember, particularly the manner of it and the quality of the opposition.

But, frankly, the proliferation of threads calling for Brad Scott's head, telling Boomer and his wife  to **** off, how useless our team are etc. only adds to it, as much as we're hurting.

In the heat of the emotion, the desire to vent is perfectly understandable, but the generalisation could do with some grounding, and the level of invective could do with some moderation (from posters).

  • Playing a bad game and being a bad team are not the same thing.
  • Players who play a bad game are not necessarily bad players.
  • A coach who hasn't got his team's performance trending consistently and constantly upwards isn't necessarily a bad coach.
  • A bad loss hurts, but it isn't the end of hope nor the end of the world.
  • We remain a relatively young/inexperienced team, particularly in the middle.
  • We've been trying to get games into kids while maintaining decent performance levels.
  • Youthful/inexperienced kids lack consistency; we've been fortunate not to have experienced such inconsistency under Brad so far IMO.
  • Ascribing responsibility for results isn't necessarily as simplistic as 'it's the coach' nor 'it's the players'.
  • The greatest disappointment always comes from unfulfilled rising expectations; I don't know if it's been the club, the media or BF spruikers, but I reckon ours have been higher than has been reasonable. 9th and 9th probably flattered us.
  • The journey will be longer and more bumpy than we wanted to believe.

Stop making excuses, we should've won, and because we didn't the heat is on.

Perspective wont help when your team has been shit since that Geelong win. I'm starting to think that it is a curse. Any witches down at Geelong?

Kimbo, these types of threads just aren't what this board is about at the moment.*

I can't help but think that if some posters hadn't made arsehats of themselves over the summer big noting the club and it's chances that they wouldn't be so pissy now.

*good thread

Great post OP.

I cannot believe the hysteria on here sometimes.

Firstly, there are many MANY things in life more important than football. I am sure that even and especially most of the players realise this.

Sure, it was disappointing, but that's football. It's a sport that ultimately ends badly for ALL teams bar one at the end of the season. That's how it is, but we keep coming back.

Now I'm off to go watch the Dreamtime game and cheer for the Tiges.

Next week, I'll be supporting North, the same as I always do and have since 1976.

Just out of curiosity, what is a bad coach?

The expiry date has run out on all the excuses.

Well that's great! I'm glad you're accepting of our shitness.

I am done with "excuses". It's time that more was expected of our playing list because other developing teams are going straight past us.

It's tiring trying to provide perspective around here Kimbo.

I only bother to listen to those who provide some thought provoking reasoning behind why they think Brad is letting the team down.

They have some valid points. The rest, that make up the clan of hysteria, definitely wear thin.

Thanks for the footage GR.......we for the first time see BS hurting its very obvious. Will be looking forward to see how he reacts now. Its official we´re in a rut.

You are right, there is no problem. 32 points in front in the last quarter and you lose.

No problem whatsoever just part of a learning curve.

Just a flesh wound.

Great thread.

People on this board are morons.

This club means more to me than probably anything, but you know what, as someone around these parts just said, I'm just really glad my only concern in life at the moment is a bunch of men chasing a leather ball.

However, when you play bad games more often than not you are a bad side.

we are a bad side.

2004 I think? From memory we trailed by 40 at half time, beat the Power, then a week later trailed by 40 at three quarter time against the Swans and beat them. I miss the Shinboner spirit.

Don't have to do much to see it again. :( Pretty sad that we have to bring past performances to witness our spirit again :(
