Now I'm sure I'll be in the minority, but I think it might be an interesting discussion. When looking at the league ladder, the city of Perth looks like it is not represented in the AFL. Sure maybe West Coast looks Western Australian, but so does the Western Bulldogs.
I remember a news article in the West Australian several years ago about a possible name change to the "Perth Eagles". I know what most will be thinking, is that it doesn't sound right, but only because we are not use to it. I remember when the West Coast Eagles was the name given to our club in late 1986, and to be honest it did sound a bit of a mouth full, but now everyone is use to it.
Plus, when we play Fremantle, the scoreboard will look like a real derby! Perth V Fremantle!
From what I gather, one of the main reasons why we werent called Perth the first place was because of the Perth Football Club (Demons) that already existed in the WAFL, that might seem strange now, but back then the WAFL ruled WA Football obviously.
