The only recent big infrastructure project in Perth that has been on time and not over budget is the Mandurah train line. Expect this one to be a couple of years behind schedule and $100 million over budget.

like most things done here, it'll only be half of what they need now.

there's not a real lot of forward thinking when it comes to infrastructure in WA

For a state that generates SOOOOOO much of the countries export $ you would think we would have the best of everything and ahead of when needed. But alas we have the ONLY monetary tight arsed state government in the country and everyone else in the country benefits first. What a weird situation.

Damn, was just thinking about the two clubs monetary position with the new stadium, obviously they will be worse off - we already have everyone in the world including North Melb getting their share of the takings at Subi, how much worse off will they be with the government also wanting to pay it off as soon as possible?

It looks like the piece of wood that results from using a hole saw on a door or a thick bit of ply.

every time I see your little boutique it reminds me of all those see-sawed opened lid tin cans polluting the side of your roads - but just like the rustic hues of our new stadium will be symbolic of WA, the empty discarded tin can is symbolic of Geelong ;)

actually I should say aluminium can - more pertinent

Equalisation of tax reciepts means a lot of it currently flows east. Also no politcal 'gain' for either side to actually spend here when there is the same population and more seats up for grab in that shit hole that is Western Sydney.

Things are getting done now, but not much was achieved in the last 30yrs. Not compared to what could/should have been achieved, with mining royalties etc.
Not that i want this to turn into a political argument

That's the balancing act that most don't fully appreciate. Whilst we hate debt, we actually over hate it from a government point of view - development $ through a certain level of debt is actually very good for the economy - it creates much $ in the economy through the multiplier effect, more wealth, taxes etc etc. as well as the real benefits $ and standard of living we enjoy from that development.

Tell that to the people who designed Olympic Stadium in Montreal!

This seems like a fairly conservative design, with no elements that haven't already been done elsewhere. Montreal's stadium had that god-awful leaning tower with a retractable kevlar umbrella roof. We won't be trying anything so ambitious.

I don't think ours will have to deal with snow, the shifting weight balance problems of snow in blizzards and just normal winds, and the other specialized roof issues they have. At least for a couple of climate change cycles ;)
