No manager in the world would do better working under the conditions Reid had to work with.

Mad Professor threatening to sack him after every loss, being made to sell off players, and bring in high risk loan signings, prats like Viduka knowing they can try it on with the manager because there is a high chance he won't be around in a week or two time.

The board deserve everything they will get out of this year, the fans who have been surprisingly good will, as always, be the ones that suffer incompetent management.

Reidy isn't a great manager, his sides are never going to play football, he can't turn crap into gold. I do believe he could have good for Leeds, and had the board acted more professionally over the last two months they wouldn't be in the position they are. If they act the same with the new bloke, and the players show the same lack of heart, they'll be paying out 4 managers in a years time.

Gee Moomba you seem to have a pretty good idea what's going on, got the new Leeds away top yet? ;) The next manager IMO should be told he's got 3 seasons to do whatever he likes, clear out all the ****, even if it means going down providing we can survive the drop financially.

Everton's games against any team managed by Peter Reid always had that extra edge to them. That was the case at Sunderland, and they beat us five times under him. The early 90s games vs Man City were, unsurprisingly, also tense encounters.

Err, no, and where has that vomit smilie gone. ;)

Unsurprisingly Leeds have been in the news a fair bit lately, and as I am quite interested in football finances and administration I have taken a particular interest in the way the club is being run. As a former City player and manager, I have also taken a fair bit of interest in the career of Reidy, and while I am in no way his greatest fan, I feel sorry for a bloke that was given no chance to succeed at the club.

There is some talk around here that Leeds will go into administration this season, thus ensuring that they don't have points deducted in their first year back in the Nationwide. Not really sure of the rules as they stand at the moment, but could be something in it. A few rumours also flying around still about the sheik. Apparently he has money to put into the club, but wants a say in how things are being run, on and off the football ground.

I've heard of lot of that talk myself and wouldn't be entirely opposed to it as apart from a few generous donations there's no way we can clear 80m in debt. If that is the plan I'd say the board will wait until say March to see how Eddie or the new manager is doing, I honestly believe there is enough talent in that squad to finish 15th.

I'd have no problems with the Sheik having a say, tell me he could be any worse than the current board. Besides his father was a Leeds fan and he has been for 25 years so he's practically a tyke. :)

I wonder what will the headlines be if Sheffield United go up and Leeds go down:

"Blades Up, Leeds Down"

splattered all over the local dailies! The Blades seem to be in a healthier state than most other Yorkshire clubs, both on and off the field. They might well be Yorkshire's sole Premiership side next season.

Viduka back as Reid sacked

LEEDS

MARK VIDUKA will be rushed back into Leeds United after manager Peter Reid was sacked by the Premier League club.

But the Socceroos striker is on the outer with many fans angered by his behaviour when his club was in crisis.

Reid, who dropped Viduka two weeks ago after a public spat between the pair, was replaced by caretaker manager and former assistant Eddie Gray. The club is now looking for its fourth manager in 17 months.

Gray will take over a club sitting at the foot of the Premier League table, having lost six of its last seven games including a last start 6-1 drubbing by Portsmouth, and struggling under the weight of mounting debt.

If he is to guide the club to Premier League survival, Viduka - the club's leading goal scorer last season - shapes as a key figure and Gray wants to use him.

"I think we are going to be OK with Mark," Gray said. "I have no problem handling Mark. He is definitely an important member of the first team squad."

However, Viduka has some fences to mend with the fans. Talkback callers have blasted the club for dismissing Reid and vented their fury at Viduka.

The 28-year-old was also heavily criticised in the English press, with former Ireland striker Tony Cascarino branding him a "disgrace" in his column in The Times. "He should have been a massive player for Leeds United, someone Peter Reid could rely on," Cascarino said.

"Instead, his arrogance and selfishness have helped to bring his manager down and his club are spiralling towards relegation."

While all this was swirling around him, Viduka looked at ease as he spoke publicly for the first time since his falling out with Reid.

"I'm used to it," Viduka said about the media spotlight. "It's part of the game. Last year we were under a lot of pressure and we're under it again."

When asked whether he was still happy at Leeds, Viduka responded with a wry grin: "At the moment I'm rapt here. I'm happy."

He obviously knew what was coming.

Only metres from where he held his impromptu press conference with Australian journalists at Leeds' training ground Thorp Arch, there were two vacant car park berths.

They were marked manager and chairman.

At that time Reid was meeting with Leeds chief executive Trevor Birch and within hours the club released a statement confirming it had replaced its manager.

Leeds doesn't play its next game - against Bolton - for two weeks because the Premier League is suspended this weekend due to international commitments.

But Gray, who will be without suspended former England striker Alan Smith for the Bolton match, has already indicated Viduka will be fast-tracked back into the starting side.

"The first priority is to try to pick points up - that goes without saying looking at the league position," Gray said.

"I will try to instil a lot of confidence in the players and I hope they will respond to that."

Viduka joined Leeds from Celtic for almost $14 million, in 2000 and scored 22 goals in his first season under manager David O'Leary who took the then promising side to the Champions League semifinals.

He backed that up the following season with 16 goals under former Socceroos manager Terry Venables, winning an upgraded five-year contract that tied him to the club until 2006.

Last season he added another 22, including 11 crucial goals in the final eight games as Reid took charge of the club and saved it from relegation.

But their relationship turned sour this season with Viduka last week reportedly saying in front of his teammates: "Stick with this bloke if you want to go down."

Ermm no, that was still under O'Leary. The West would be better suited to lifting articles from British papers thinks I.

The sale of Rio was supposed to do that.
Along with the sale of Woodgate, Keane, Bowyer (oops), Fowler. They have really screwed up, and it all started with sacking O'Leary for no good reason. I cant see them surviving for much longer. The Fiorentina of The EPL.

It could be argued that the problems started with O'Leary and his spending....and a board who went along with it.

O'Leary is at Villa now, and without the financial backing (or the kids that George Graham developed at Leeds pre-O'Leary), he's struggling to get them out of a relegation battle.

You do wonder what may have happened if Graham spurned Spurs and stayed at Leeds.

Yes but with O'Leary they were 1-2 places out of Champions League. Regarding Villa, they have been crap since moving out Gregory, who isnt a good manager but was having a bit of success.

I forget the old geeza they brought in but he was crap and started the real downfall. How much did they pay for Peter Crouch:D
