i was goin through our draft picks and i noticed sydneys whole team is built on luck.

Luck, or smart recruiting. Aren't most teams built on some degree of luck, because no one can predict how well each draftee will perform in the big boys league.

You seem to have a very negative view on things, but you're not giving Roos and his recruiting staff enough credit.

id say luck. everyone picks the player who they think they would be the best first. no other way to look at it and more often than not it hasnt worked out for sydney.

i only have a negative view as we have traded for 3 ruckman in the pervious few years. which shows our inability to recruit. we have also traded for 2 forwards.

recruiting all these ruckmen has put or midfield stocks back, we dont have many middle aged players and i think it is going to hurt sydney sooner or later. look at essendon for example

Getting off topic here but I don't see why you are so negative at Sydney's recruiting. Yes Chambers and a couple have been duds but look at Hall, Richards, Craig Bolton, Mattner and Jolly. They have all been damn good inclusions and a couple a massive reason why we won a flag.

As for recruiting draft picks, there is no certainty the higher your pick the better the player. James Hird went in about the 70's. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It is no secret that Geelong are the benchmark at the moment and alot of there recruiting you could put down to so called luck as well. Paul Chapman was picked up in the 30's and they have others who went low.

dont get me wrong im happy where we are, we play a better finals style of football than the rest.
cant really go on hird and people drafted 10+ years ago. its become more of a science now.
but yeah sydney has stuffed up, whoever signed carey away might aswell be shot.
actually someone did get it right once. shannon grant, pick 2 and anthony rocca i think was pick 3 or 5

im just a bit critical not at our current list, but as to what the future might hold.
