where did wight play today and how did he go - there are some calling for him to be dropped which I dont understand, but I havent been to the last couple of games.

Not arguably, definitely provided a helluva lot more, we look so much better with him there and always have, end of discussion minson followers/street knockers.
Don't think all Street knockers are minson followers. I personally think they're both a fair way off being really valuable contributors to the team.

His lack of mobility is a liability.. His opponent was used as the linkman on many occassions, when was the last time Jeff White had 22 possessions. His tap work was Ok, but not good enough to be his only string in the bow. If by him being in the side we dominated the centre clerances it would make up for his other defieciencies, but sadly we didn't.

STREET >>>>>>>> MINSON

streety will get better as he gets more games, he showed this last season. He is very tall and can take a grab, minson cant

Street was fantastic against Melbourne. I've already watched the replay 3 times and his tap work was very skilful. He also took a couple of good grabs around the ground. His fitness seems to be a bit down but I'm sure if the Bulldogs are going anywhere this year, Street will be playing in the ruck. I like Minson because he is really aggressive at the ball but Street is a more skillful option. He's also a good kick for goal.

Hypothetically,

If - yes if - Street can hold his place in the team.

With Darcy and Wight and perhaps Doogs if he cracks a spot will do the rest of the rucking.

What happens to Will. Can we play Will too?

Will will really have to step up his game to force his way into and be a regular in the team.

At this stage he is only offering us free kicks against and 50 metre penalties.

At half time Street had 6 hitouts to advantage to Jeff White's 0. That really says it all. He could still be a little cleaner with his taps and get more possessions around the ground, but that should come with more match fitness. Will is going to have to work his butt off to get back in and that's the way it should be.

Thought Strret was reasonable yesterday....certainly an inprovement on Will's form this year. The other positive about yesterday was how influential Darcy was in the last quarter. The bad was that we still rely on him for centre bounces at all.

According to the Champion Data stats in the Herald Sun we actually won the clearance stats 37-35. This is a big turnaround from the thumpings in this area we have been copping all year. Street's ruckwork must have played a fairly big part in this. If we can break even in this area we are going to win a lot more than than we lose and Street can play a valuable role in this. He's limited in other areas but important to addressing our biggest weakness.

How good was Big Darc grabbing the ball out of the ruck spinning onto his left and snapping the goal.
Bloody Rippa!!!!!! the man is back

According to the official stats Street took 1 mark.... White took 10, most uncontested as he ran off Street and to a lesser extent Darcy with far too much ease.

Well, according to the Hun 23% of Streets 22 hitouts were to advtange. Melbourne failed to score a single effective hitout. Street will never have the motor to follow around ruckmen like White. Perhaps he needs to consider making them worry about him. Sprinting forward to our f50 might give them something to worry about - you can't leave someone 7ft tall alone inside 50 and he's a very reliable set shot.

So when we dont have the ball instead of chasing your man he runs the other way hoping that his man doesn't get the ball... That makes sense???

And its not just White who's mobile, next week he comes up against Fraser, and the week after its Everitt, etc... The modern game calls for a mobile ruckman, I know it was Street's first game for awhile and he may not be 'AFL' match fit, but he needs to be more than just a tap ruckman.

Does anyone get the feeling we all over analyse things sometimes.

Will has played poorly.

Street gets in.

Street played okay.

Now next week.

I'm not suggesting he does it at every bounce. White wasn't paying Street any attention at all. It wasn't like he was just running off when Melbourne had possession. Instead of just following around a ruckman he can't keep up with, it might not kill Street to roll the dice and run forward every now and then. If he snags a goal or two it'll make the other ruckman take notice and might limit their impact a little. Just a thought.

So if he cant be overly defencive, he should be offencive as a way of making his opponent play more defencively.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Whats wrong with streeter dropping back to the hole ala scott wynd?

1) it is the most dangerous spot for the oposition ruckman to be, so if he cant catch his opponent, at least he can deny him the most dangerous spot
2) forces oppostion forwards to lead wide

wyndy made a career out of it.

A good point, though it doesn't seem to work when he tries it. He may block off a leading forward's space, but when the ball gets bombed in he doesn't make it to the contest. It's something he needs to get better at. He showed on the weekend he actually has quite nice skills so here's hoping he finds a way to hurt his opponent more.

Don't get me wrong. I mean i do have a man crush on Street, but dropping back and filling in the hole requires a pretty good football brain. Chris Grant is sensational at this, as was Wynd. But i don't think street has the skill to chop off the incoming ball. There are better witches hats out there. I'm happy for Street to play in bursts, ruck for 10 mins, run as hard as he can to stick with his direct opponent then come off from a 5-10 min break and let Darcy/Wight pinch hit.

His tapwork was good today. White would have destroyed Minson.

Might be worth throwing Wight in there next week, as he's probably the only one that can go with Fraser.
Not only that, but Fraser's ruckwork, whilst serviceable, has never been sensational. Having Wight go with him may make for ungainly ruck contests, but the round-the-ground duel will be a cracker.

Streey tried to do this a bit yesterday, but gets caught out of position. He has trouble back-pedalling when the ball is kicked over his head, it looked like he would trip over his own feet a couple of times yesterday.

I am not for not having him in the side, like Butane said I think he should be used on short bursts and can hopefully have an effect on the game via his ruckwork.
