Wight on Fraser would be a great match up, Wight is much fitter and going all right at the moment. Wight could hurt him by being able to run off fraser also.

Street has more to offer than Minson but that is hardly saying much. There aren't many players in the league who read the play worse than big Will. Having said that he might actually be worth a shot this week; Fraser has never done much against players who attack his body hard and this is Minson's one and only talent.

I was quite surprised with his game yesterday.
He was very good in the first half compared to his ave games.

he looks more confident in taking a mark and bouncing the ball which is all good signs for the big guy.:thumbsu:

Street was fantastic against Melbourne.
The first thing I read on this thread!
Gesz thats an exaggeration and a half. Whilst he had played better than Minson had the past few weeks, he wasn't named in the best, got little of the ball apart from taps, and had only little influence around the ground.
Fantastic? Darcy had more influence as a ruck for us.

...you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink!

true, but a good coach can get more out of his players than a bad one. something we have seen amply demonstrated over the last 5 years.

if both our rucks are running around like headless chooks on the field, should we be looking an addition to the ruck coaching staff? maybe we need to look at getting a ruckman who was 'good around the ground' in as a specialist coaching role? someone like a Jim Stynes?

Getting a bit pointles this debate, big wil struggled fot the first six rounds .so its time to give Streeter a crack along with some bursts from Darcey. Stick with that til form suggests otherwise.

How about we look at cutting our losses at the end of the season & trade for a QUALITY ruckman?

Because they are very very very rare, even rarer trading for a QUALITY ruckman. Mark my words, in 2 years Minson will be one of the best running around. Until then we have cover, i suggest we take the best ruckman with our first draft pick next year. But in saying that, if there is nothing there, then don't waste it.

Lade wasn't considered a gun ruck man till last year...and he is 30. He's entire career he only averaged 6 kicks, 4 handballs, 13 hit outs and 4.5 marks. Then last year he just went bang and averaged 11.5 kicks, 4.5 handballs, 20 hit outs and 8.5 marks. Ruckman take along time. I remember Darcy for his first 3-4 years wasn't very good and a lot of people doubting him. What about Cox? took him a while, Fraser was sensational last year, but average before that....there is a trend.....what about Simmonds from the tiges? Sandilands is just coming in to his own now..and he is what? 25?

Great post. Ruckwork arguably the most difficult skill in our game, and to perfect it, or even be good at it, takes lots of time and a huge chunk of skill. Great ruckmen are few and far between, if you can get a good one, you're laughing.

Funny how teams like the Kangaroos & Brisbane seem to be able to stockpile them.

With out looking it up. I can hardly think of one quality ruckman these guys have had in the past 4-5 years. Sure, Charman can play but wouldn't be regarded as one of the best in the league, and the kangaroos have got McIntosh whos 22 and played 18 games of AFL. Minson is younger then both. I suppose Brissie got that young kid Luenburger...but he was top 4 in the super duper uber draft and hasn't played a game yet.

I though Clark Keating did pretty well - 3 premierships had the ability to just whack the ball forward in one way or other. Beau McDonald was pretty good until injuries ruined his potential...

Yea, you get my point. None of them were awesome quality.

But they were more than adequate.

Essentially, I suppose, what I'm saying is, how much better would our midfield/clearences be with a DECENT ruckman?

If you think that we will be significantly better, then start to think seriously that that's the way the coaching staff will also be thinking.

And a DECENT FULL TIME "POWER FORWARD". The Dogs haven't had a decent full forward since Simon Beasley. Tim Walsh and Michael West are/were supposed to be the future Full Forward and CHF. Both could
be delisted at the end of this season. Which leaves the dogs with....

Darcy is still needed in the ruck because Minson is still inconsistent and pack marks can't be part of the dogs forward line when Johnson, Guido, Aker and Murphy are the dogs main targets - Although Robbo can probably challenge that statement (if he ever gets a game!).

Time to start thinking about the future. Who do the dogs have, who can
be a target and also kick goals....

Cookie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Danny D. did ok. 8 goals in a final (and we still lost).

Alright, it was a bit of an exageration but we have been so badly beaten in clearances that I was wrapt to see someone in the ruck who could actually palm the ball to an onballer. For the first time this year the Bulldogs appeared in the top 5 for hitouts.

Top 5 for hitouts, thats just great. Obviously the result you been wanting all year?
The fact that we won by 6 points was more important to me.
