Petterd needs a position.

Running around like a headless chook at the moment.

We are halfway to ruining him Lynden Dunn-style.
Ruining him? he needs to have something before that happens, that guy did some freaking STUPID things, what was with that kick to the goals, went for a cheap kick as opposed to a goal, its like bailey said kick the ball whenever you get it.

Unless he does a Col Garland turnaround, he can piss off

is a poor kick for goal, needs to improve if hes going to stay forward

correction.

good kick for goal, but the forward line clearly isn't his best position

+1

I've said it before but let's hope we get a forward line soon so he can get back to the HBF. He's better than Bennell or Cheney but he's needed up forward at the moment. I'm just worried he's be screwed around (ala Dunn) for too long so when we get that forward 6 set, he's no good even in the HBF.

He needs to be dropped this week to find some confidence.. stick with him at half forward, our defence is looking good.. and will be solid with more experience.

Bring Dunn in for him...

Just play Dunn and Petterd on a weekly rotation in that "utility" spot. They can have a competition to see who breaks the 11 touch barrier the most times.

What did he do wrong tonight? A few poor patches, but often he is stuck deep and does Robbo and all the other forwards chasing - had 3 tackles today. I'm happy with him up front. Keep Cheney, Grimes and Bennell as the small defenders. Is one of the best kicks for goal in the side because he can actually cop some pressure. In a functional forward line I see more games like round 1 this year for him. Just can't deal with the bad delivery as effectively as others because he doesn't have a body like Robbo, Miller, Sylvia and Bate do.

He could be a chance to be dropped, but I thought our forward line is functioning reasonably well at the moment. If Miller wasn't a complete ****, and we kicked a bit straighter in the first quarter it was a solid effort.

I agree he needs a position, but let's not tear into him for having crappy stats.

Despite our improvement from last season we are still poor going inside 50 and when you play deep forward and are not a big body, you will find it hard.

Honestly I am hoping he is the player the GC take from us. He's out of contract then and there is already plenty of players competing for spots in our backline.

Ricky's shown a lot of heart & guts since he's been at MFC, and aside from what I already knew about him back at the start of the year, these qualities have definitely stood out in at least several games this year to me. I'd forgive him a couple of dog days just on that basis.

But I agree he needs to be able to develop in the one role more...

long term, I think he might have to become a midfielder... If he develops the engine, I think he could do it...

for now though, he might need a run at Casey to find some touch on the leather...

If GC did take him then it would be less of a loss to us if he was kept being used as a utility now. If we develop him into a position only to lose him we not only lose an established player but also have wasted a spot (and time) we could have developed someone else with. This is not a rationale to keep him as a utility as we can't even worry about GC, but more of one of those hindsight observations that could come into play later down the track if we did lose him.

I'm more concerned about Dunn going somewhere else and prospering, but you're right he is just floating around at the moment. Has kicked 8 goals for the year without ever actually firing.

After all we've done to him, Dunn probably deserves the chance to do just that.

Best decision Jolly ever made was to leave the club. Simmonds, meh.

I like it.

We dont have enough players going through the midifield at the moment.

One thing ive noticed about Ricky is that he can take a decent grab for a fairly small bloke. I know this shouts forward line but as has been said before, he hasnt been doing great there.

I want him to take the Aaron Davey/Leon Davis path. The small forward who turns into a gun midfielder overnight.

I know Ricky hasn't got the skills or the shazzam of the aforementioned, but with fingers crossed and a little bit of pixey dust, it could happen. That or his other lung will explode, probably along with his brain from position confusion.

He really hasn't been bad up forward when he's had opportunities. We're hardly the highest scoring side going around. I'm confident he can come back, for now it's off to the 2's until somebody can work out wtf to do with him.
