Looking to start some discussion about what Phoenix, and their new GM Steve Kerr, should do over the coming months.

Firstly, don't mess with a good thing. We were 'unlucky' in the Conference Semi-Finals. It was not because of lack of talent. If Stoudemire was healthy at the start of the season, we would have pushed 70 wins. Nash and D'Antoni want to keep the core, even if it means paying luxury tax, and Sarver has said he supports that. There are just some pieces that need to be placed around the team. My ideas are:

Draft
-24th pick- There is nobody in this area that we could use, unless Acie Law falls to us (In which case we could trade Banks for a PF/C). Probably best to trade it for a pick next year.

-29th pick, Sean Williams, Boston College, PF- If he didn't have more baggage than Artest, he would be top 10. The NBA will make or break him, worth the risk.

-59th pick, Jared Jordan, Marist, PG- Steve Nash Jr. Could push for some NBA minutes and he may be the fire that needs to be lit under Marcus Banks.

Free Agent's
Grant Hill, Orlando Magic, SF- He wants to come here, and he will only request a minimum contract. Great locker-room guy, and still has some game.

*And if they don't get drafted
Brad Newley, Australia, SG- Would be a great 'spark' to have, even if he only gets minutes in some games. Bring him on in the 4th to light it up, kinda like Eddie House used to do...

We all know him but... http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/bradnewley.html

James Hughes, Northern Illinois, C- Bit of a 'love child' of mine... Big, athletic, plays D.

This would give us a roster like this...

PG: Nash/Banks/Jordan
SG: Bell/Barbosa/Newley
SF: Hill/Jones/Piatkowski
PF: Marion/Thomas/Williams
C: Stoudemire/Diaw/Hughes

*Both Diaw and Barbosa could each clearly start instead of Hill. It just looks more balance this way, and gives a solid G and F-C option off the bench.

With a healthy squad all year, and barring some dirty, Spurs-inflicted, playoff injuries or ridiculous suspensions, this is a Championship roster!

GO SUNS!

Why not make a off-season thread for each division???

anyways would any Suns fan do this trade:
Nuggets send Marcus Camby, Reggie Evans, Linas Kleiza, future 1st rounder to the Suns
Nuggets receieve Raja Bell, Boris Diaw, Eric Piatkowski, Marcus Banks

Yea I like that Idea... maybe too many PF's though. If they resigned blake and sent him instead of kleiza and we got grant hill, we'd be laughing.

-Banks and Diaw and mistakes and contracts we don't want.
-We went after evans last year so they must think he would fit.
-Blake is a good protege for Nash.
-What better way to inmprove your D, than to sign the 2006 DPOY! Although, we lose AD1st Team player Bell, but marion can defend on the perimeter well.
-Piatkowski means nothing to us, but the Nuggets want some shooters.
PLUS, we get a 1st rounder in the future.

PG: Nash/Blake
SG: Hill/Barbosa
SF: Marion/Jones
PF: Stoudemire/Evans
C: Camby/Thomas

Blake wouldn't sign for the Sign and Trade deal.

He said he wants to be in a team where he would start... so if we get Bell or a decent defensive player who could defend the 2 he'd probably join Portland or Cleveland or something.

But Kleiza isn't that bad...
He could play PF, SF and SG, and isn't a bad defender but falls for the pumpfakes a lot.
He is also 22yo, so still very young with a lot of potential and has improved his 3 pt shooting dramatically during this season (averaged like 45% from 3s in the second half of the season).

What the Nugs get out of the deal:
BELL - YES FINALLY SOMEONE WHO COULD HIT OPEN 3s AND DEFEND THE 2.
Banks - Would be the backup PG of the team Boykins style. VERY fast player, who could stop players like Parker, Barbosa and Devin for us and heat up the bench.
Diaw - Trade bait.
Piatkowski - Will play the Kleiza role.

your kidding right?

camby & evans are exactly the wrong type of players for their system

Suns need to learn to play lock-down D in the play-offs.(hint:its the thing you do when you dont have the ball)

Agreed, for all their whinghing for what the Suns would kill to have players like Horry or Bowen to actually play some tight, physical D when it counts

Yep, we need to play "defence" like the Spurs. We are gettin some tapes of them and trying to learn what they do.... Actually, I have a leak of what will be shown at training camp:

'How To- Attempt to snap the achilles tendon of the oppositions leading scorer'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKxdfq_mRDE
'How To- Knee in the Groin'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J2SDouIqtA
'How To- Check the Oppositions MVP into the Scorebench'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pBeCQak588
'How To- Break an ankle'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drPQkEsM8uM
'How To- Tunnell a player and get HIM ejected'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UI5pE2-bXkE
'How To- Kick in the back'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLgHeeOZJFI

-There's plenty more but i've only got Day 1...

Mate if you're not going to be constructive and just troll the board, go somewhere else.

Don't try and talk crap and get ppl to bite, everyone will just ignore you.

***Has anyone notice that if you go to the top of the page and click on 'Thread Tools', this Jerry Springer idiot is in the drop down list...?

empty rhetoric on bigfooty. who'd have thunk it :D

there are stats on defensive efficiency... could you tell us what they say?

Another rumour I'm hearing is Diaw/Jones To Memphis

FOR

Miller/Swift

This could work... Another big atletic guy to help with the boozers and duncans.... and a 3rd reliable scorer in Miller (hes a good playmaker too)

Latest Rumours around include

Kobe

KG

Marion Leaving?

Personally I wanna see marion stay... He does a bit of everything for us and is our 1% guy

As I've said numerous times, I don't follow other teams and know little about their players but I'm a fan of Mike Miller.

That trade seems fair and reasonable.

+ we lose James Jones, who I'm NOT a fan of.

Marion staying is unlikely but we can only hope.

Add Miller + Swift and the draft pick (unfortunatey not 4 or 5 as it could've been) and we'll be fine. We might even have a MLE available.

However, while we're in salary dumping mode, maybe not.

As for KG, it's possible. not likely but certainly possible.

However, if they want Amare (I don't care if they give us 5 top 10 picks in return) they can get ****ed.

Kobe-Phoenix won't happen. Lakers won't trade, we're not interested (for the inflated price) and the fans would probably tear the place down if it did. :p

I know Miller's on a fairly hefty contract, so there'd have to be more at work than simply Diaw/Jones (moreso if Swift is involved).

Holy shit.I think M'Ike D'Antoni will kill the owner.

The S'Uns just traded K'Urt T'Homas and their 2008 and 2010 1st rounders for a trade exception they won't use!!!!!!!

So in the interests of getting below the luxury tax, they have sold the following.

Luol Deng
Nate Robinson
Rajon Rondo
Rudy Fernandez
Kurt Thomas
James Jones
08 1st round pick
10 1st round pick

And again when Nash/Amare or whoever goes down with another injury you just know that Suns fans will be saying how 'unlucky' they are.

No.

Any injuries that arise are the result of your owner's cheapness. They have sold away their depth. KT was their best (only?) interior defender. Nobody on that roster can guard Duncan if they meet again. Nash hasn't got long left. Surely the owner could take a salary hit for the sake of a championship?

Thomas was their only interior defender, and the last vanguard against Tim Duncan.

this must mean 1 of 2 things:
1. a deal for garnett is about to happen
or
2. they've lost their minds.

I wonder how Mr Sprite feels about this?

Well, they can't use the trade exception with players... so what would the deal be?
