The Zak attack

The future of Zak Butters will be the No.1 trade topic for all of 2026 - a top five player in the AFL who is very clearly considering going home. He's had a deal in front of him since early 2025, up to an eight-year extension worth around $14 million, which would have been footy's biggest ever deal if he'd signed. Port Adelaide will do everything it can to keep him, with the Western Bulldogs and Geelong the strong contenders for him in Victoria, while Hawthorn, Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood will all try for him as well. Butters is a free agent, but Port Adelaide will likely be able to match any offer for him and force a trade if he decides to leave, which will be crucial for the Power as they look to accrue draft picks to match bids on their 2026 draftees, led by possible No.1 pick, Dougie Cochrane.

Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood could realistically all be in the bottom 4. and the Dogs might miss finals and sack the coach.

We have one of the easiest draws ever. if we can't turn that into a 'successful' season and convince Butters to stay, then its probably better for everyone that he leaves anyway.
Carlton and most especially Collingwood, will not be bottom 4 lol.

Curnow was on a downward trend imo and Sydney will regret the trade for a 28 year old. He will still be solid but maybe not as good as he was when on song at Carlton.

Carlton as a whole though, I have no idea but i'm invested in death riding the greyhound clique.

Will be interested to see who Carlton perform without TDK. My gut feel from watching him play is that he's a bit like Buddy, a fantastic player who doesn't necessarily make the team better.

Its possible Curnow doesn't have the same impact he did at his peak, but I mean even in 2025 the Blues were only 3 games out of the bottom 4, so its not unthinkable to guess they might end up there (I personally think they might finish in that 12-14th range, but just saying, bottom 4 is possible).

If he wants to stay, he will. If he wants to go, he will.

Either way nobody is bigger than the club.
Well that’s it in a nutshell I’m still sure he has right now a pretty good idea what he’s doing.
I can’t see one year with a new coach will make any difference.
I don’t believe a word players say after Dolly Dan Dreams.

I’ll be death riding the western bulldogs this year hoping they bottom out.
Mmmh? Not sure about that. If WB have a crap year, I dont see Butters being interested at all! What we know of him, is that he is a football "Nuffie" in the best sense. He obsesses about the game, and getting the best from himself. He is driven to succeed, so moving at this stage to a team that drops down the order seems counterintuitive to me, despite them being the childhood team he supported.

If Port have a very good year, he has good rapport with Carr & Co, and he thinks we can win a premiership in the next, say, four years ... I reckon he will stay at Port.

Reality for us supporters is that 2026 will be the "Butters Circus" year! We are all going to be totally sick of it by the time his decision is announced!

I want to give you a bit of rib right now but I’m in a nice mood today.
I’ll give you a hint. Check your dates 👍

What? You mean your glass is half-full today? 😜

Cheers
Well Tibbsy even after the dogs preliminary final disaster I still held hope out for the players even with Hinkley as coach to least make a GF in. 23/24.
I was scoffed at for having those beliefs.
Move forward to 2024 I finally came to the conclusion the team wasn’t good enough to win a flag.
And guess what? I’m being scoffed at for having those beliefs.
So the glass is never half full or half empty, there’s no glass at all.

This is in no way has anything to do with your posting at all.

You werent scoffed by everyone for backing in Port in 23/24, many of us here backed the quality of the team ... You were scoffed for dourly defending Hinkley.

It never was never as good as it seems ... But the converse is also true! ... It really is never as bad as it seems!

The negativity many of us feel now (in various degrees), is really the cumulative result of a decade-plus of being gaslit by Kosh, Hinkley, Richardson, the media, and even captains of the club!

I seriously think it it not just severe disappointment, but a form of PTSD ... Not meaning to depreciate anyone that suffers or has been affected by PTSD or any other mental illness, but what these individuals have done is a sickening disgrace, and will take a hell of a lot of work by Carr and his band to heal it.

My 2026 wishlist:
Carr turn the ship around, and we play deep into finals
Butters decides to stay on & work to get a premiership at Port
Koch decide to call it quits and ride into the sunset
Another strong football identity joins the BOD
While they are at it, shoot MR into the sun too
