Tayte Pears or Alex Rance would be ideal at pick 18. Not sure if Rance will fall that far but hopefully pears will.

Don't be too concerned about having to draft a KP defender. I would prefer us to look at a foward, as there are alot of fowards who turn into good defenders ie Merret, McGuane, Scarlet?

Maric will be good, however we don't need a small foward/onballer. Nonetheless I wouldnt be unhappy if we got him - will probably be picked up by the dawks though if Rioli is take in the top 10.

We will just trade for him in 3 years anyway

While were running this poll as something to do on the board, it seems Miller, Jackson and Wallace are pulling out all the stops and have put up a poll on the RFC website asking the same thing.;)

Pretty luck if either do fall. I would be VERY VERY surprised if Rance lasts pasts pick 8.

Yeah we would be very lucky. But the draft never ever goes the way anybody expects.

The other i wouldnt mind picking up is Callan Ward. From what i have read seems a very good midfield prospect.

a KP for me - preferably one who is more a natural defender

Rance would be awesome - if we got him @ 18 - i declare that i will create a new craze called the " Rance Dance" - which will involve me jumping, then falling into a commando role, then merging into me crawling on four paws into a snarling tiger prowling.

so thats how likely i think it will be he will fall to pick 18:(

if no decent Kpp's are available that might mean that Rioli could slip through - and if so - i would be happy with that

this Maric fella -u say he is a small forward - a super quick, crumbing, pressure forward?
or a marking - small forward on the lead - ala petts and brown?

if he is the first option - i would see him as a decent find - like he is a richmond supporter - Cotchin is as well - two tiger boys coming to the firm:thumbsu:

Yes, the kid will be very good, hes to young to be picked up this year though...

If he has a strong year next year then i think he will go top 10 easily.

oh damn.

I knew there was a bit of debate about whether he was old enough.

Well hopefully we can nab him next year.

Callan Ward is elligable and will be the bolter on draft day to get if not in the top-10 extremely close to it. So if he fell to 18, then absolutely, definately, no question at all we should taken him.

Notice you didnt have a write up in your top 50 at mid year. Is that because you were hiding him ala Rockliff or he has come from that far back in the last half of the season??

Can you give us a small write up on him??

Ward started the year in the backline as a Bowden-like possesion gathering backman. Was fringe-Vic Metro, was one that was obviously going to be one to watch, but perhaps one for next year (being bottom aged). Kicked well, moved well, showed promise, but not quite there yet. Was going to be in pick 60-70 consideration as a club pinched him out of next year's draft.

As the season went on he got bigger (maybe 2-4cms), he got heavier (maybe 6-7kg). He shaved his head and went to the HFF line. He had the occasional run on the ball.

We went from a player who let the game come to him, to being a guy who would get frustrated when his team struggled and would Hird-like put himself on the ball, snatch a clearance, kick a goal (not comparing him to Hird as a player ... just that tendancy to take the game into his own hands).

By end of season he is a 185cm ruck-rover in the making. Effectively playing CHF for Western and being a one-man band at times. Shining out over the others with his marking, his attack on the ball and long kicking.

Often times what jumps a guy up the order is not 'talent' which is about as far as many people break it down. What Ward was showing was a willingness to take the game on, a willingness to take on the challenge of lifting his team.

Plenty of blokes (like Joel Bowden) take whatever the game offers them. They go to the loose man, they run where there is open space etc. Not too many make the game and try to shape the game to their will.

Ward may be a flop but his rate of improvement this season was gigantic. The draft is about where a bloke will get to in 4 years and although Ward is half a lap behind some of the 'guns' he is going at 5 secs a lap quicker than 'em. The AFL clubs won't miss that.

Weaver I'd be interested in which order you'd put these names.

Grimes,Collier,Vespremi,Gourdis,Notte,Pears.

Gourdies will go first. Genuine CHF prospect with pace. Top-10. Probably the first KP player taken. I have him aound 7.

Pears will go next. Very bottom age, a little raw, but shapes as either a FB or CHB. Anywhere 12-20.

Notte has some talent but at 194cm and only 70kg he is tiny. Should slip a bit. Who knows I'd say 50 plus. I'd leave him to next year.

Grimes is a poor kick and lacks pace. Just a solid midfielder rather like Tuck. 20-30.

Collier lacks footy smarts and is more similar to Jackson that most would care to admit. 25-35.

Veszpremi is a weird body type. Guys like him often get overlooked so it wouldn't suprise if he was in the 30-40 range.

ok we all know who the top 3 are
Kruzer, Cotchin, Morton - that sort of order

then we have (not in any order):
4. Masten
5. Palmer
6. Rance
7. Ebert
8. Rioli

what if we took

Gourdies - Genuine CHF prospect with pace. Top-10. Probably the first KP player taken. I have him aound 7.

at pick 2 and picked up the best mid left over at 18

that way we are guaranteed a KPP

I think you have to go best available with pick 2 and then look at addressing needs later, maybe even waiting until pick 51, PSD and rookie draft. I haven't seen any of the KPPs seriously talked about as even close to the top 3, so it would be a real stretch to reach for one of them with pick 2. Had we traded down pick 2 to something like 4, 5 or 6 then it would have been a distinct possibility.

If, or when we get Morton, we can attempt to develop him into a guenuine utiliy who can play KP or wing/flank

I think we should rookie picks Nick Carnel and Al Neville from Coburg and then use the rest of our picks on KPP's unless a standout mid drops to pick 18
