We're getting rogered at the trade table by Pies and GWS.

Armstrong's apparently not in the deal anymore and after FA compo it's picks 39 and 44.

Reamed!! Buddy cost us a hell of a lot for someone we picked up as a restricted free agent.

But in saying that, I don't regret the decision, or the collateral damage either. White was always going to be looking elsewhere for more opportunity, even without the acquisition of Buddy. And to be honest, I'm still not sold on him, even with his much-improved end of season form, he was never going to be a game-breaker for us, just a contributor. When you look at White out, Buddy in, it's a huge win. If we got pick 44 for Jesse at the end of 2012 it would've been a great deal. So all-in-all, I'm not too fussed.

It would have been good if we could have kept both Mummy & Pyke in the side. But looking forward to 2013, I don't think we would have played both. So having both would have been a depth/insurance thing. Which considering injury, would have been the sensible thing to do. I dunno, that's the big thing for me, losing Mummy. I sure hope we have a plan in place for the possibility of Pyke getting injured. In saying that, he seems pretty durable, so I guess we just cross our fingers and look at covering for him in the 2014 trade period. Pyke has been the more durable of the two ruckmen, + the cheaper option, so who knows, may have been the right decision, even if it was forced upon us to some extent.

I just wish we had more bargaining power, but on the balance of things I can't be too disappointed.

Armstrong, gotta feel for the kid. Loves the swans, wanted to come to us. I was never sold on him and never saw him really compete at AFL standard, but if he does remain on the list who knows, he could come good. Or perhaps we'll get something for him in future.

Meh.

Mummy was off anyway. We got the rough end of the pineapple but not awfully so. Under value but something at least.

White on 90% of his exposed form in games we won the deal. 10% of the games he has played we waz robbed (maybe).

Personally I think White went at fair value if the above trade is accurate. As I have said before I am sure he answers to potential because it is said so often around him. I fail to see how we can value White at his best when he failed to show it so consistently. time will tell and I wish him all the best and hope a new club brings the best out in him but I will not be holding my breathe waiting for it either.

Yeah, I think part of it was White knowing that he was off to a new club at the end of the year so he threw caution to the wind. Who knows what happens when the weight of expectation is back on, he may go back into his shell. Plus he would've been starved of opportunities at the swans in 2014 anyway. So I wish him the best and hope he does turn into the player he was capable of being. At his best he can be pretty entertaining to watch.

All the best Jesse

Mumford was looking like he was going to the PSD til yesterday so be happy with 39 and Jesse was unwanted steak knives 12 months ago and now we get 44 for him. Pretty decent both of them in their respective contexts, if you ask me.

I would not put 100% sure about what the Media Reports. They have been Wrong Before

Realistically I don't expect white or Armstrong to be best 22 next year, serviceable and can certainly play their role but probably aren't best 22. If 6 months ago I told you we could get buddy, pick 39 and 44 for Mumford, white and Armstrong would you of done it?

I expect a lot of the Collingwood supporters who barely knew who White was before to tell us they ripped us off lol.

Fact is he's no chance to play ahead of Tippett, Franklin and Reid.

Mumford was leaving anyway, pick 39 is much better than the alternative. Now at least if there's a 3rd rounder the club likes, that they don't think would've slipped through to us, we get the chance to draft that player. Much better than nothing (provided they use the pick well).

White, despite recent improvement, is still nothing more than a fringe player, as is Armstrong. Can't expect any great value, late 2nd rounder is the absolute most you could hope for, a 3rd rounder is probably the right price. White has teased before and may yet regress back into his old ways, if that happens selling him now, even for a late pick, rather than re-signing him could be seen as a very wise move.

Swings and roundabouts, Kennedy, Mumford, R. Shaw, McGlynn were all fringe players that came to us in similar (cheap) fashion. Tippett and Buddy were stars we grabbed for nothing (pick wise anyway), we at least got something for Mummy.
Then there is the big unknown and the most important factor in deciding whether we actually win or lose a trade - who we actually draft with those picks. We get another one or two later selections like Luke Parker(pick 40), Alex Johnson(57), nobody will be upset. If we get a couple duds...meh, we'll be on the other-side of these sorts of trades again soon.

What do you mean by that SM?

Moaning about getting Pick X instead of Pick Y for a player like White and Mumford, who could have gone in the PSD, when we've just picked up Franklin essentially for free, and people were so quick to gloat and celebrate his capture. It's just crap.

I'm starting to hope Armstrong stays. From an outsiders perspective he looks like he genuinely likes being at the swans and is popular among the playing group. He is a depth player and in no way a first 22 player at the moment. But if he works hard enough, I think he can make it. With the likes of malceski and shaw getting older, there is an opportunity for Armstrong to cement himself in the next year or two.

He does not need to dominate games, but when he plays he needs to show his strengths. He is a decent reader of the play and has excellent skills. Like others before him ( ala white) he just needs to put it all together.

He is contracted for next year so the ball is in his court

The first two, sure - if they're available. For Tippett in particular, that's no certainty. As for Reid, on last season's form I'd have White ahead of him. He was awful.

Jesse white player the majority of his games this year along side Tippett or goodes. Reid was taking the best defender week in week out which he is not quite ready for. With another key forward in the team as the number option, I would take Reid over white every day of the week

I don't see a lot of moaning. Just people saying it's a bad deal, and it is.

Getting Franklin doesn't make a late 2nd rounder suddenly seem like a good deal for Mumford.

It is what it is. A shitty deal that we have to accept, and it seems most of us get that.

The small element of fan who tell you to have faith in the club re franklin want to whinge about mumford and white deals,

Swings and roundabouts, we had no power in this case, if anything gws should of told us to piss off and grab mummy in the psd

Not really; Reid played every one of his games with Goodes as well. White kicked three against Adelaide and Hawthorn without Tippett.

White kicked three or more five times in fifteen games this season - Reid's managed that seven times in his career.

Reid is a notoriously bad chest mark and not a great kick from a set shot. That's not to do with his defender, that's basic skill issues. I wonder if he will ever be ready.

I for one am psyched to see how a fit Sam Reid goes when he isn't copping the best defender.
