List Mgmt. Pick 9

Would Freo consider 9 + 43 for 10 + 22? Effectively paying 393 'points' to stop our inevitable bid on Henry. It's costly, and it still leaves Melbourne in the equation. I think Freo will go very hard for Melbourne's Pick 8 instead.
I don't know why we are talking about adding pick 43 to any deal, it's a pick worth keeping and trading it takes away the tactical advantage of gaining an extra pick in the first place. Try downgrading a second rounder for a third from next year, or something like that.

Sounds like a nice fit for us from what everyone has said. Haven't seen him play though.
Do not want any player who has done an ACL, enough injury plagued players thanks.

If we’re going to go for injured players I’d trade down and take Dylan Williams and Cooper Stephens. Both were highly rated pre-injury. GCS could be a willing trade partner as they want another Top 10 (Kemp could very well be a target for them) as could GEE if Jackson is still available. We could also stockpile more decent picks by NOT bidding on Henry, McGuiness and PA’s apparent interest in Stephens. Elijah Taylor would be a nice addition a bit later.

Kemp for us COULD be elite, but where do you play him? He’s got CC written all over him. We should fill other needs first IMO and more options leads to more chances of success in this standard of draft IMO especially with injured kids available later.

BUT - my first choice would be trade 9 to GCS for their mid first 2020 compensation pick (11) and 15 or 20 this year.

I had completely accepted that we would not have this pick so it is exciting being able to get stuck into another draft. I had talked myself into Robertson but would love if Ash slid, think he would add a real point of difference to our backline. Probably most excited about Stocker having another pre season if I'm honest!

With Dylan Stephens, i thought he looked workmanlike good in the Championships but some of his work in the SANFL later on looked a level above that. Similar to Rozee who carried some niggles in the Champs but then looked next level later in the SANFL.

If we kept 9 i wouldn't be disappointed to get Stephens at all, but not disappointed if we don't. Very even bunch between 3 and about 13. You can split them according to your own tastes, but there's not much difference in all reality.

The pace Stephens showed in a bit of his SANFL stuff would really suit us. But he didn't look over quick in game at the Champs. I liked Schoenburg just as much if not more as a player.

If Stephens gets past Crows, there's every chance he gets to us. Fills a big need and is a good kid who's played against men already.

I'm calling it.

Yep, my preference too
1. Stephens
2. Ash
3. Kemp
4. Trade #9 pick

Would be funny to watch the melts on the Crows board if they were to take Stephens at 4. Had they not done the pick swap with us they most likely would have got him at 9 anyway plus kept there pick!

I think they will pass on him stay conservative with the pick and go with someone rated currently in the top 5.

Or Jack Mahoney who I reckon is a better small forward than Weightman

Disclaimer: I haven't seen a lot of Ash beyond highlights.

I fear everyone gets caught up in his blistering speed, but I want to know about the rest of his game.

Seen him Being described as a Simmo replacement. But what sets Simmo apart is his reading of the game - both in flight and general game awareness. It's what places him above most teams' rebounding defenders IMO.

How about Ash? What's he like in the air? Does he make good decisions? Can he win one-on-ones? Does he know that his surname is the acronym used by the American Society of Haematologists?

Don’t we already have a light running machine who runs both ways and can kick well in LOB. Why would we need another given Martin is also headed our way

They're all different players with different complementary skill sets.

Martin is better in the air than both of the others, and has the versatility to push forward and drop into defence.
LOB is the hardest runner and, to my eye, has the better long kick. Great overlap runner coming out of defence, and also well suited to playing the opposite wing for the switch of play.
Stephens has a great turn of speed, and is more suited to playing around the stoppages. He'll start his career on a wing, but that won't be his best position.

Absolutely have room for all three in a team, can never have too many elite runners with good disposal.

Stephens actually reminds me a lot of Murph in playstyle, hybrid mid who isn't elite as a pure inside or pure outside mid, but instead is very, very, very good at both.

I don’t see him like Simmo at all. He’s much bigger. I think he’s excellent one on one in the air. Has a solid frame and can tackle and dish out a tackle. Just a very good footballer for mine.

Stephens on the mcg open big space is scary sight to see
He looks everything David Cuningham should be. Breaks lines, good decision maker, great kick on the run, not afraid to have a shot on goal when around the mark. I'd say he'd slot straight in and Davey would be lucky to get a game unless he improves a lot over the pre-season.
