Pick Five Players!

If you could pick ANY 5 past Richmond Players to join the RFC next year, who would you choose.

Being limited by being born in the early 70's means I havent seen most of our players and must go on Rep alone.


1. Jack Dyer. Who else could be No. 1, and a walk in for the Captains spot.

2. Maurice Rioli. Deadset champ. I remember being at his comeback game and him starting on the bench and everyone cheering for him to come on.

3. Royce Hart. To kick goals and handball to...

4. Kevin Bartlett.

5. The hardest one for me to pick, but giving the nod to M. Roach. With KB, Roachy, Hart, Rioli, Richo, N Brown and Krakeour in the side we should see scores of 200+ everyweek


Id be interested in who the old-timers would choose, having never seen Hart or Dyer live I chose them on Rep alone.

seeing as i have only been alive since 1988 and only watched from about 1993 onwards i dont really know many so i will choose on REP too.

2. Captain Blood - even if he had to be a rover nowdays.
3. Don 'Mopsy' Fraser - teams should be built from CHBs who hate forwards.
4. Vic Thorp - greatest fullback ever.
5. Flea Weightman - best hands we ever had.

That's the frightening part of the modern game.

The big/tough ruckman of yesteryear was smaller than a lot of todays midfielders.

Where I grew up, John Shultz, who won a brownlow in the ruck for the doggies in the 50s (?), ran the local grocery store...OK, by then he had long since retired, but I would guess he'd be about 6'2", maybe 6'3"..187-190cm, the same height as Deledio, who could only hold down a KPP at a stretch.

To get back to the topic..

1. Royce Hart. I barely remember him being in the team, but would love to see him play, fit.

2. Francis Bourke. Would fit into todays game nicely..a big, hard midfielder with plenty of class.

3. 'skinny' Titus. Anyone who can kick that many goals is worth having in your team. In the modern game, maybe a 3rd forward..

4. Jack Dyer. Not sure how he'd go in the modern game, but talent and attitude help a lot, not least with encouraging the other players.

5. Bartlett. Anything to get him back to the club Probably more a small forward these days, rotating with Krak/Tambling through the midfield.
