Its that time of year, and this year I hope I can get some people's minds off last Saturday's game for a few moments.
Enjoy the read and so we begin the dissection after 2011!
As we draw to an end in 2011, we see both Leon Davis and Ben Johnson sitting in 1 and 2 for most games played for the CFC with 225 and 224. Davis is just two short of Lockyer and O'Bree for representation of the CFC. Alan Didak is in third for the current group, with 202, Chris Tarrant is fourth with 184 and the youngster who is aging, Sir Charlie Dane Swan rounds out the top 5 with 175.
Travis Cloke will play his 150th in his next game. Alan Toovey is 13 short of his 100th game. Luke Ball and Chris Dawes are both 2 short of their 50th games in the black and white. A sad fairwell for the great Leigh Brown who retires having represented us 65 times. Can you believe Jarryd Blair is already upto 36 games??
Most importantly, as every club needs, there is that group between the 50 and 100 game mark which has enormous upside and potential talent that can make you win flags in the future, Collingwood's group between 50 and 100 games are a promising bunch; Bed Reid (53), Dayne Beams (59), Steele Sidebottom (61), Tyson Goldsack (69), Sharrod Wellingham (72) and obviously Alan Toovey, who I covered earlier, with 87 games to his belt. Those are 6 players who should only get better and be around for another 7-10 years.
Luke Rounds, Lachlan Keefe (both 5 games), Ben Sinclair (4) and Tom Young (2) were the Magpie debutants for 2011. Hopefully there is a bright future for at least 2 of these guys.
Believe it or not, but of all the current Magpies, Chris Tarrant has still kicked the most goals for the Collingwood FC, in his 184 games, he has kicked 301 goals, behind only BT, the two Roccas and Daics in the last 30 odd years. The next two closest are Neon and Didak with 270 and 265, which isn't that crash hot for two players who've both had over 200 games in the B&W. Quickly rising up this list is 24 year old Travis Cloke with 224 goals, needing another big year next year, hopefully 78 goals, to be in our top 5 of the last 37 years. Wouldn't be too bad at 25 years of age. Dane Swan is the only other current Magpie with more than 100 goals. (133 goals from 175 games)
Next closest in regards to goals is Daisy Thomas on 99, Scott Pendlebury on 84, you've also got a young Chris Dawes on 67 goals from 48 games. Dayne Beams is doing alright with 61 from 59 games.
The disposals king, Dane Swan, is working his way up the Collingwood ladder. The only one with under 227 games in the top 8 (175 games), sits at #6 with 4453 possessions at an average of 25.5 per game. All those above him (Shaw, Bucks, Burns, Brown and Daicos) played 250 games or over. He gets another 500+ possession season next year, and he'll be behind only Tony Shaw and Nathan Buckley, and could still be before he hits the 200 game mark. Ben Johnson will go down with some of our greats (Lica, Russell, O'Bree ect) of the last 30 years with over 4000 possessions by the end of next year, needing only another 60 odd possessions.
Of the 20-odd Magpies that have accummulated 3000+ possessions since 1974, the person who has played the least amount of games with 127 is Scott Pendlebury, the next closest is a champion by the name of Darren Millane who played 147, and then Mick McGuane who played 152, the rest are on 180+ games. [other than Swan, whos on 175] Scott Pendlebury is averaging just under 24 possessions a game in his career so far.
Scott Pendlebury is also in our top 5 for tackles since 1974 with over 500 tackles laid. As stated earlier, he has played 127, the rest of that top 5 have played 225 games or more. Dane Swan is at #6 on that list. In that same list, of the top 30 in the last 37 years, the only two players that've played less than 100 games for Collingwood are Alan Toovey, and Luke Ball. Both having already laid over 300 tackles.
I hope you guys enjoyed the read.
