When do u think MM will implement the full on press ?
Will it be today ?
I have a feeling the coaches have been holding back so the players don't fatigue out too much.
The press in all it's glory will def be on come September, but when do u think we will kick into it ?

Re: Pies full press when ?

We are pressing, but not in all its' glory. Perhaps this is the tinkering MM spoke about pre-season or perhaps, as you say, we are holding it for another few weeks.

Re: Pies full press when ?

Wouldn't mind seeing it in full force against Carlton in a few weeks. Let's see how the big game players like Walker, Betts and Yarran stand up to it. :thumbsu:

We saw 30 minutes of the "full press" today against a mooted challenger.

Shit it's awesome although I would so much rather Mick called by it's real name, the internal club name, "The Shit Down Defence".

I'd be really happy if we unleash the full un-cut beast in the GF.

it's amazing how this issue has received so little press this year, pardon the pun

everyone talks about copying the pies press, how to beat the pies press, yet there is very little written or said about the fact that the pies have hardly used the full version all year. yes they have used it in patches, such as today v the hawks when the hawks kicking game was shown up for what it is - ineffectual against the best press going around. it is a style that is very taxing and there is no doubt the pies have been tinkering with it since the start of the year, but it all seems to be part of the process aimed at peaking in sept/oct

Haha. :D
Pie eyed looks great in red having given that arse wipe HyperAggressiveDonk a huge serve on the main board.

Ran straight to the ****en lame arsed mods for protection.

And got it too.
Limp *****.

I think we are playing around with defending deeper to counter a team exactly like Hawthorn.

The forward press defence was mainly aimed to make it harder for teams who played on and run from defence (mainly Geelong and the teams trying to emulate them) I think Hawthorn's ball movement for most of the year has kind of been a reaction to most teams using forward zones. They slow down the ball movement with precise short kicking in defence to take advantage of the extra the free men. When the game was played in that fashion (much of the first half) it gave us time to set up in defence deeper, so when they got the ball to the wing there was no space to work with in the forward line.

^ I think Macaffer has alot to do with that. That third marking option down forward would add another dimension. That said, Cloke's form is more than making up for any structural issues down forward.

Macaffer's tackling and pressure added a lot too.
