It's obvious a complete review of the football department will be done at the end of the season. In my opinion the club has some hard decisions to make. I reckon Ratten is a gonner. Wether we may think it's fair or not, it's a results based game. He may however survive if injuries are taken into account. Question is, who do we want coaching us?

In the recruiting area, should we go for a big name forward? Or do we chase a Travis Boak? Which players do we need to say goodbye to?

In the boardroom, is there changes needed there? The deal at Ethihad should be re-negotiated for sure. We dont play too well there and if it's our home game we don't make any money.

I am not trying to be too negative. Just think if we got things set up right, we have the basis of good season next year.

I don't know anymore to be honest. Our list is good enough to be in the 8 at the moment. Ratten should definitely go, but its not just Ratten that contributes to this. The playing group should be accountable for this as well. Tonight, we saw a team who were out-coached and outplayed. We seemed lethargic, slow and thin compared to North. The lack of effort is very worrying. It is as if they gave up, because we all know they can do much better than that. Problem is, why aren't we seeing it?

If Ratten goes, who do we replace him with? Should we go after Roos or Malthouse? Will they want to coach next year? Should we go after a new coach? Essendon, Collingwood, St Kilda, Adelaide and Geelong have all done that recently and it has worked out for them quite well.

Maybe we can get a coaching team like Essendon's current one? Really getting the best out of their players at the moment.

That said, we need to throw everything at Cloke.

I seriously have no clue where we are heading. Could well go back to our 2002-2007 days. Definitely hope not

Malthouse and cloke to carlton, snare fev in the rookie draft, put size and strength into our whole list and reduce injuries with proper training done by new football department, tank and draft a heap of guns... well not sure the fev thing would work out but its good to stir up ppl about it.

Hey even just getting Fev would be an improvement.

How many dud Clokes do you want at this club, facts are injuries are deplorable the depth is poor and the players just dont believe at present.Adelaide turned it around last year they freshened up their list have a much more attacking game plan and the results are plain to see.I hope that the person responsible for recruiting gets off his ass and watches some Country /Metro leagues and finds some 24 year old gems to build some depth.
Please find someone who can get a forward line that can take a grab and kick straight.Please.

If Brock McLean is retained, Carlton are kidding themselves. People can point to stats as much as they like, but if he is the man supporters are pinning their hopes on, sorry, a long season will ensue.

Opposition do not man him up. They let him run free and encourage Carlton to use him. He has been taking a fair few marks on the spread for a reason. He stops, turns it into a slow play, allows numbers to get back and invariably turns the ball over. Opposition prey on it.

He cannot be on the list next year if Carlton are moving in the right direction.

Yes darling, time for your Valium.

You are living in 2011 where Ratts had him as a link man.

Fev- plays well in the country and for FootyShow games. Only fatter bloke was Big Red. Professionalism? Yeah lets get him back. Must be hungry to play AFL again to eat so many Pies and drink so many jugs. Will improve the culture

I can just imagine us going back to the culture of the early 80s... a couple of barrels after training and plenty of smokes all round... Fev can lead the drinking songs...

Early doors. Still life in the old dog yet, mathmatical chance and all that .....

Playing any kid showing signs is all we need to do for now. Too early to worry about who to chase as there is still plenty of time for them to re-sign with their current club before trade talks start in earnest. Lets focus on what we have (or haven't) got on the list over the next few games before we go throwing money at players we may not actually need (looking at you T. Cloke).

Anyone needing surgery can be booked in if we can't win three of the next four outings.

others like myself not so close to the action (truthfully or otherwise) will find out in the fullness of time (or at least wednesday i guess..) as to whether ratten's been sacked or not. that and the information is out of our control.

anyway, i guess this is where some people might call us shit, but then go on to say we are deliberately losing. no need to throw games for what is essentially just a few places in the draft order.
i'd like us to put some planning into not being gold coast's first win for the year...

Next year can start planing when we can not make the finals.
I am calling it now. Bugger the statistically BS. We are not up to it. Put the injured away and play some youth. Those not deserving a gig drop. Cut the old and stupid. Get ruthless. line in sand.

well done. You have all the answers. Care to name names? Wow so easy fix is not so easy. Shhhhit a brick

Called it last time - and was absolutely BANG on the money - two months ahead of everyone else.

Crucify me again - I'm only here to call it how it is.

Will say this - and this ONLY - it is NOT THE PLAYERS FAULT - anyone who calls that is misinformed -

NOT THE BOYS -

numerical, I think that we could still make the finals... but on the whole, I think that the club should just be sending the guys who need it to the doctors to start getting them ready for pre-season.

I reckon getting a few games into the guys who are fringe at this point wouldnt be bad. If Walker is gone for the rest of the season (touch wood he isnt), I would get all of rookies into the action as well as the guys who are on the senior list, but are still to play a game. Casboult and Mitchell in attack, Watson has done enough to cement his place in the seniors next year... so I would give McCarthy a run for a couple of weeks.

Dale can come in and I would send Jeffy back to the Ants for a couple of weeks. And I would give Boots another run in the seniors especially if Touhy doesnt come up for a couple of weeks.

I would drop Curnow... he is going to be staying on the list and I would promote Bell and give him a couple of runs. He looks like he is going to be a player.

That way, at the end of the year, we can make proper educated decisions about who we will be retaining instead of just waving the scythe and lopping a bunch of guys who could make it, but havent been tested at the pointy end.

not the players for allowing their skills and decision making to fluctuate like the wind. OK replace the coach-with who? Replace the prez-with who? You are so on the money. Big calls like Walls - so brave but NO SOLUTIONS. Makes me think weak as piss. Pull the pin and expect miracles to occur just because you made a call. It is crap

I agree - I can't.

There are options though - but I'm just saying, facts are facts. - Staff, players - assistants - are struggling to deal with his approach.

Ninja Edit:

I don't want this to be the case - it just is.

We are here to win games of footy - and it AINT happening, there are no dynamics in Bretts dlivery, it's sad, it's tragic, and upsetting. But its also a simple fact.

Deal with it on Monday.

Yes - its wrong, it's sad, he was awesome - but he has to go - or we are not Carlton. Hope people can understand that.

unless you can say OK Bomber Thompson replaces Ratts because he will be better, unless you can say Mrs Pratt takes over from sticks because she she will do a better job...unless you can say x player or y assis cioach stepsn and does a better job...review at the end of the season- highlight where we need to improve. See how that can be done. Go try do it but have a plan. there are NO quick fixes

New coach ? Yeah , Bring Back Jezza !

Seriously folks , since joining the forum in 2010 when there was a wave of excitement in the air about our prospects it seems that toward the end of the season there is always a "plan for next year" thread. Ratten , with all due respects ,has brought us back into Finals action but we can't seem to get past the 1st hurdle. Is this a mental thing or bad planning because its not the quality of the opposition. I think that once you have a team & coach together for x amount of time & they almost immediately improve but then reach a certain point in that improvement & no longer continue then at some point they will start the inevitable slide down the ladder again.
Its very easy on our side to say "we want a new coach" but who ? Malthouse I do not believe would suit Carlton & vice versa for the same reasons we have had other coaches from a non-Carlton background & they did not work ( Barassi excepted ) so whilst I agree we probably do need to move on with a new coach we have to ask from where do we find one ?

btw gang I have , since last August , left Australia & am now living in the USA ... man I miss the footy & your good Aussie in the pub to talk footty over a few pots with !

I honestly dont see the problem with picking up Fev, pick him up in the draft, pay him miminimum wage and play him if hes fit..
If it doesnt work out at the end of the season cut him no big issue

Id rather see Fev with redemption in his heart than Cloke with cash in his pocket in our forward fifty.
