Trade a top 10 middle aged ruckman that played 22 games, and is about to hit his prime.. that could becomes a top 3 ruck superstar. so you can get an old hack, past it Ruck man who may not be able to get on the field.. to mentor some other young rucks that may never reach the heights of the guy you already had...

Yep.. I'm the stupid one alright.. enjoy pick 17.. I'm sure the player you get with that will lead you to the promised land..

Oh and Jolly is shot.. couldn't ever really run.. but now can't run at all.. also literally can not jump more than 5cm off the ground.. so have fun with that.. I'm sure Hickey is going to enjoy having his body smashed up by guys like Cox, Nic Nat, Bellchambers, Mummy et al each and every week... is going to do wonders for his development..

Don't forget the broader miss-management. Their drafting strategy doesn't make sense since Lyon left (and Pelchan came in, there is a theme here). What was the point in signing Hickey when 12 months later they've further weakened themselves and acknowledged that the signing was unnecessary.

Fixed, Melksham in, Myers out. Melksham has def gone past Myers and a few others in the midfield.

And these guys are the reason why we shouldn't be worrying about Joey retiring in 3-4 years and Myers still playing. If 2 of them go past Myers next season we'll lose Myers anyway. He's not going to stay around for 3 more years so he can take Watson or Goddards spot in the midfield when they finish up.
I think Myers will be AA in two years. He will be getting his own ball and hammering 70 meter goals week in week out. So yeah, i don't agree

Best and fairest's, etc. are funny things, it may seem like a daft example but I would say Pendlebury had a better year than Swan, yet Swan polled more Brownlow votes. You've got to realise that some people just pay more attention to some players than they do others, naturally they know Myers has what it takes at AFL level and knows he goes about his business, whereas they would've had to keep a close eye on Kommer to make sure picking him up wasn't a complete stuff up.

The Brownlow is not a relevant comparison to a club best and fairest. No matter how people try to spin it, Myers was viewed as having the 21st best reason at the Bombers in 2013. That would seemingly make him expendable if the right offer comes along.

Individuals need to get over the fact that he can occasionally kick a long bomb and take in the big picture. When they do they will realise that Myers is one of those players we can replace that will improve our ability to make the top 4.

I have mentioned before this is a bi-polar board.

1) We seem to have a welfare mentality. We will take the player if he is free, even though the player may not be a good fit. But if we have to give something up ( read draft pick/player ) to get a player who is a better fit, we shouldn't do it.

2) You upgrade your list through drafting and trading. In a perfect world I would trade out half the best 22 if I could upgrade each of the players.

3) Montagna the player. I would be confident we could get three years from Montagna. he plays as mainly an outside midfielder, who is defensively sound, can break the lines, has above average endurance, Kicking is good to very good by AFL standards, and he has mongrel in his game, which is often under-rated.

Of course how we organise a trade for Montagna is a different matter.

This is all just premised on your opinion that Montagna is the best possible signing.

Gee whiz, you don't know much about McEvoy, as a pure ruck man, McEvoy wouldn't even be top 20 in the league, the guy was 27th in the league for avg hitouts spending 70-80% of gametime in the ruck. Hickey has already surpassed him in the 'hit outs' category and is a much better pure ruck man. Hickey probably isn't as good around the ground but has plenty of time to improve.
And like I said, Jolly will not play at all, unless both hickey and Stanley are injured.

What pre 1995 view on the value of ruckmen are you applying?

It would be fantastic if Saints want Crameri. He can't walk into the pre season draft to the Dogs.

Chapman AND Montagna?

They seriously want the flag in 2014.

Joey won't be going anywhere.

Well it's either trade to a stronger club or spend the remainder of his career copping beating after beating.

Are you sure Essendon will be the stronger team next year?

Hmm, a likely top 8 side and possible top 4 side vs a likely bottom 4 side and possible wooden spoon side. Yeah, pretty likely

Strange things have happened in football.

Yes they have, particularly when it involves the St.Kilda football club.

If, (and right now it is a massive if still) Joey does come across, it just compounds how brilliant the signing of Goddard was.
