Seriously.

If we are talking about some one who tackles it is insulting to Howlett that you'd put Kommer near Howlettt.

Just look at their numbers and it will help to refresh your memory on Kommer's "tackling".

I agree that Kommer is a younger version of Sam Lonergan. Gives 100% effort, tackles hard, average pace, average reading of the play and poor kicking skills. If his body is sound on a low wage he is handy for depth and that is all.

Kommer was gifted about 80% of his senior games, so he should consider himself a very lucky boy to of represented our proud club 19 times at senior level 2013.

He sure isn't a forward and heaven help us if we start gifting him time in the mid field in 2014.
People were saying the same about Melksham...

The thing is, I don't see any outstanding midfield attributes either. He doesn't look great in the packs, has a kick far too short and sprays it when kicking more than 35 metres (like Lonergan) and doesn't really read the play very well.
He's in his first year, ffs. I've said it before and I'll say it again - not everyone is going to have the same first year that Heppell did. Reading the play and effective disposal comes with training, experience and game time (RE: Melksham). Even if he ends up a depth player, fine. But when there are calls for him to be delisted when he was far from our worst in 2013, you can't help but feel some people are being unfair with him.

Kommer was also a mature age recruit.

Yes, it was his first year in the AFL system, but how many years of WAFL did he play prior to that? Three or four?

I don't think it matters how many seasons you play in the 2s, the step up to the AFL is pretty dramatic. I think you're all mad for pulling the trigger on Kommer now, wait for this preseason and see how he goes. He's still young and has plenty of scope for improvement, it's not like we've drafted a 28yo.

Comparisons need context

The reason there were allowances for Melksham was because he had shown glimpses of the sublimely skilled finisher, with the ability to work through stoppages, that the latter half of 2013 has confirmed he is more than capable being. His pace was an important part of a midfield that was largely pedestrian. It is almost certain that the club conceded that, by bulking him up, it caused most if not all of the troubles of 2012.

What best 22 player are you seeing in Kommer? A midfield rotation? Name the incumbents and the guys outside the best 22 that you are happy for him to replace. The only thing he has going for him is a standard of intensity that should be expected of every player that takes to the field.

It is the same as it is during trade period. Everyone gets drawn into specific arguments, like whether Kommer averaged the same number of tackles Leroy Jetta averaged between 2010 and 2012, or whether experienced player Y could have a role to play, but there is no real consideration of how things fit together in the bigger picture.

Wasn't a fan of Melksham early, still think he was gifted a few too many games, BUT at least he showed glimpses at times of being a very good player.. and then showed this season that he can deliver.

Kommer, at his BEST, is average.. the team will be far better when guys like Kommer aren't getting a look in.. for example if you take out Kommer and put in Chapman.. same intensity around the ball but can also run through the middle, actually kick goals and is a good decision maker.

I'm sure it will work out in 2014..

Blah blah stop looking for scapegoats, support your team
It's not about looking for scapegoats, it's about deciding who is good enough to take us to the level we're aiming for.

That's what people are saying but how do you decide when you (not you personally btw) know SFA about the coaches plans and intentions and preseason has only just begun?

We don't know what will happen over the pre-season, the comments being made though are done based on exposed form, which is the safest thing to go by.

To say that he's not in our best team really isn't outlandish in the slightest.

Statements like this is the reason I have'nt been on this site for a while.
Some people have NO idea

People are entitled to their opinion mate, as long as they are prepared to defend that opinion if you raise valid criticisms. stating someone has No idea is not valid. Lance I'm sure would relish someone challenging his point of view so why don't you give that a shot.

You'd bloody well think so given Lance's tolerance on the HTB. ;)
