who is currently out of contract, and who is coming out of contract at the end of next season who would be a threat for the gold coast to steal?

the main ones im concerned about are Ablett and Selwood being taken, luckily both are as fanatical geelong boys as you could hope for, so i doubt they will go, but what is the situation with these two in particular.

Re: Player contracts

Gary Ablett and Joel Selwood are both out of contract at the end of next year at a time when the Gold Coast club has the chance to secure uncontracted talent. The spectre of the Gold Coast side would likely force their price up at Geelong, which would have obvious ramifications for the following year's list and salary cap.

But next year the vast bulk of Geelong's list should remain intact.

''We have time up our sleeve [for Ablett and Selwood], they will be done some time next year, I don't know when,'' Cook said. ''But I am not going to go into the individual players.''

Re: Player contracts

You would think those drafted in 2007 would be out of contract, ie:

Harry Taylor
Dawson Simpson (apparently re-signed for 2 years)
Scott Simpson
Dan McKenna
Adam Donohue

Also (I think):

Blake
West
Gamble
Stokes

Think we'll all feel much better when those two are stitched up long term. Have a lot of faith in Balmy to get the job done.

Re: Player contracts

I'm guessing that awesome 2 year deal we gave Tenace after the big 2007 group hug is done this year as well.

McConville and the Ruckmen

Just heard, the manager of blake and west is playing hard ball with the cats. Wants $$$, and more game time for both ruckmen, including west. If he doesn't move on the $$$ for blake he will be gone, as the club could not make it work.

Interesting few days ahead.

PS he is one manager, who is to be hated.

Pickering, get the ablett 4 year deal done, another reason to celebrate. (maybe nathan could be frank's builder)

Re: McConville and the Ruckmen

dont believe it. blakes manager would know he isnt getting more money (does not deserve it) and the club would just let west go if he is playing hard ball

Re: McConville and the Ruckmen

It really is a massive conflict of interest.

The best possible outcome for West would be Blake leaving which would make west the #3 ruck and i am almost sure Otto will injure himself again next year.

For some reason i have a feeling that they may want the club to move Mumford on in order to get Blake and West to sign on. That is the only thing i can think of that benefits both of them. It means Blake's spot in the team won't be threatened and West is 1 step closer to breaking into the team.

Hopefully the club won't give in to this if it is the case but i am interested to see how it works out.

But yeah i agree with goodoldcats. They know the club has no more money to offer nor would Blake get it if they did and West isn't quite important enough to demand a lot.

Re: McConville and the Ruckmen

Give them both the chop, let Mumford be #1 ruckman for all of next year with Ottens doing backup so he doesnt injure himself again

and let hawkins help out a bit if Mumford is struggling to hold it himself, as we did this year.

I'd rather see Blake and west gone, than Mumford gone anyway

Re: McConville and the Ruckmen

I would rather Mumford thann Blake but I don't think Mummy could ruck an entire year (surely Ottens will get injured at some stage).

I don't like players holding a club to ransom over salary & this wouldn't be the first time Blake would have done it.

Any chance of moving both Blake & West on & then picking up up either a Griffin from the Crows or Hale from North?
That would allow us to have:
#1 Ottens
#2 Mummy & new ruckman rotating as well as depth when Ottens gets injured as mentioned.

Re: McConville and the Ruckmen

Any chance Dawson Simpson can be the 3rd (backup) ruckman? How's he been doing in the VFL?

If the above report is true then we should trade them both.

I heard a rumour that Blake has recently sold his house at Warun Ponds and has had several contracts offered to him for what he wants.

Good Riddance.

Maybe we should've kept Kingy and let the ungrateful sook sod off.

Blake was awesome in the GF

But if he wants to be a dick sydney will take him

Who would want the sook that is Blake. Take West any day. Have a mate who is a good mate of Selwood. Said he is keen to head to the GC for better $$$ than he's getting at the Cats. Who blames him ...

Why is Blake always the one doing this? After winning a premiership with this great team finally can't he just be happy and try and contribute to keeping the group together.

If he keeps this attitude up I would like to see Mumford take his spot next year. He showed more versatility and competence around the ground than Mumford and in a few years could be a very good player.

I'll be very cut if we lose Selwood or any of our other guns for that matter!

I'm sure Geelong will get rid of players before they lose Selwood and Ablett. I wouldn't be stressing just yet people.

Blake can go. With Geelong signing Simpson for two years, it indicates that they will not have five ruckman on the list. Plus if they get rid of West and Blake (two developed ruckman with experience, which is gold in modern days) it will free up much space in the salary when Mumford gets promoted and is on 140k-160k a year as a "first year player". Not many clubs would be throwing big money at Mummy when they could get Blake or West for the same price or a little more.

Plenty of players pushing towards their late 20's. I'm sure Geelong will be teeing up retirement packages for some of them already. I'm sure Carlton aren't the only club to get their sponsors to "employee" their players.

I have faith in Cook, Balme and Costa.
