A+ : Hille
A : McVeigh, Davey
A- : Lloyd
B+ : Fletcher, Lucas, Stanton
B : Watson
B- : McPhee, Ryder
C+ : Welsh, Houli, Lovett, Winderlich
C : Dempsey, Gumbleton, Reimers, Lovett-Murray, Lonergan, Nash, Monfries, Slattery
C- : Neagle, Rama, Michael, Jetta, Hocking, Atkinson, Laycock, Myers, Peverill, Dyson
D+ : Daniher, Hislop, Pears
D : Bellchambers, Johns, Hooker, Williams, Magin, Lee, Johnson

The good thing is that that we are starting to acquire depth amongst our players ranked between 14-30 on the list. Also those players are generally young and improvement should happen in the next few seasons. Hopefully we can get at least 6 of those C rated players pushing into the B class in the near future.

Great topic Daytripper as usual!
I feel that Reimers, Myers, Houli and Jetta have all shown what they can do in glimpses of brilliant play, these players really excite me and I can't wait to see them play in 3 years time. I also feel like Monfries and Welsh should be in the B- or B area.
Essendon have proved that in recent times that it does not matter where you have been picked in the AFL draft (Houli, Lonergan + Reimers), with the right coaching and being drafted to the right club with the right game plan any AFL prospect can become a star :) Its obvious by even making it into the AFL draft that a player has talent.
If Reimers wasn't given the license to play on and be agressive like Knights lets him he wouldn't be a rising star at the moment.

hmm dont quite agree with that, Ryder is definatly higher, and possibly Welsh, Reimers, Lovett-Murray & Lonergan aswell as a few other changes. But is this based on this season or since they began playing?

Welsh and Monfries are certainly playing like B, B- rated players at the moment. However I need to see them sustain it over a period of time first.

Justify your choice of Hille as A+ then? Im a big fan and he has had a remarkable season, should be up for All Australian honours at the end of the year, but realistically he hasn't been the best over the last few years and only now are we seeing his full potential beginning to emerge.

If Hille is A+, surely Watson, who has been consistently good over a 2 or 3 year period, should be further elevated? Also, I think you are being very harsh on guys like Jetta, Welsh, Reimers, Lovett-Murray, Lonergan, Monfries and others. Jetta has shown a great deal of improvement and has really found his niche in the team, as has Welsh in a midfield role. Reimers, IMO, is in our top 3 best youngsters, and should be rated just behind Ryder. Lovett-Murray, although he hasn't been overly consistent, is not a C grade player, and has shown this in the past few weeks. Lonergan has been outstanding all year, and is looking like another great prospect. Monfries, too, is shining, and showing that he really can play.

Although I agree with a lot of what you've said, I don't think Hille can be rated as an A+ player if you look at this on a long term basis. Guys like Lloyd, Fletcher, and McVeigh would have to be A+ for their full careers, although Hille has been our best player this year in isolation.

You make some valid points.

I rate Hille as an A+ because he is likely to be an AA this season and by default that should automatically give you an A+ rating.

McVeigh is just off A+ and guys like Lloyd, Fletcher and Lucas whilst still being extremely valuable are just hitting the downward part of their careers.

Jetta, Lonergan and Reimers are both showing heaps as young players but they are not contributing at B level yet. When they start consistently racking up 20+ possessions per game then they earn the right to move up the rankings. They are excellent young players but not excellent players in their own right if you can see what I mean. Maybe Lonergan could be a C+.

Put it this way. If you were to rate Birchall or Williams from Hawthorn you would probably have them as B- players. Are Lonergan, Reimers and Jetta at their level yet ? No. Hence my C rating.

Well said. Can't complain when you put it that way, keep up the good work.

Overrating Davey.

Underrating Fletcher, Watson, Lovett, McPhee, Ryder and Welsh on his last 6 weeks.

Bit harsh on the guys who havn't even played a game this season. (Hocking, Gumby.ect)

Lonergan a (C), spewing!
He has been very impressive in regards that he had only played one game before the start of this season. Definitly one of our most consistant, in his past 14 games at least.

I'd give him an A straight up, or at least a B+...
