Best player now: Ben Cousins
Best player in current squad over entire career: Glen Jakovich
Future superstar: Chris Judd (surely evryone agrees with this)
on the decline: Glen Jakovich (although I still think he is great)
Best big man: Michael Gardiner
future stars: Mcdougall, Kerr, Fletcher

Daniel Chick to me has been a little dissapointing to me since coming over, I really think he has to get a bit more of the ball to take the next step for us. He is a great tackler, but needs to do more.

Daniel Chick has not averaged much more then 17 posessions in a season. Therfore for us to expect much more of him would most likely be unrealistic.

His value was more about doing the hard stuff and whilst he was injured for a few games I thought he did a fair job at being a an on field leader to our young side.

He was doing a ****en great job until he succumbed to injury.

The way he closed down Pavlich in the first Derby was just brilliant. An injury free Chick is an awesome sight. He willl show his true worth this year. For years we have been missing the tough guy ingredient in our team and if Waters is as tough as they say we might really start to show some physical presence. Big Quentin Lynch or Paul Johnson putting in a hip and shoulder here and there would be a great help.

Chick is a great tackler as I mentioned, but I still think he has to do more. When he was playing in the forward line he was great at keeping the ball in, but needs to kick a couple every now and then.
I realise he has never been a huge ball getter, but somone with his talent should be aiming for 20 possesions a game.

Disagree.... gaining possessions is not his game...Chicks real value is about getting the hard ball and negating his opponent both in the midfield and in the forward line. I actually see this as being far mor valuable to us as a team then him getting 20 possessions.

My opinion is that Chicks greatest value would be in a backline, this is where his skills a natural fit, there he could play a Chris Scott type role.

Agree...

Infact our list is starting to resemble Woosha's playing style more and more with quiet a few tough nuts. In particular:

Hunter
Chick
Lynch
Waters - possible premature at this stage but definate potential.
Chick

I also think that the following have a lot of potential as tough nuts too:
Kerr
Embley (will never forget a shirtfront that he put on as a 18 year old, reminded me of Woosha even then)
Gardinder - he has quiet a bit of mongrel in him.
Green

Yep! The above boys mighnt play 'preety football' but they play footy nice and tough. It gets results imo. On Gardiner I can definately agree- he has got a fair bit of mongrel in him. Watching him at York Park it became only to clear that the boy is tough. He talks the talk and walks the walk, thats for sure.

Chick vs Kangaroos...even when injured he came back on the field and inspired the eagles to victory (with a little help from Samps)...that's his role for the eagles...to be the enforcer and to provide leadership and courage through the midfield, not to be a major possession winner

Brisbane's three-peat, based on hard and physically intimidating players, has brought the footballing tough-nut back into vogue. And I for one am glad. For all the exploits of finesse players in the league at the end of the day most supporters like to see their team dish out a bit of violence (within the rules of course). Why do you think our great leader Woosha is so revered? Because of the countless shirtfronts he grassed opponents (highly esteemed or not) with.

There's an article in the West today which touches on this.

Hunter is not tough ! in fact no-one in our side is tough. Embley and Chick are the closest we've got to tough.

Worsfold and Archer are/were tough.

Our team has toughened up as a unit under woosh, but i'd expect to seem some more evolving in 2004.

God im gonna miss big Troy !!

that was a ligit, bump with no malice in it. The two off them accidentally clashed heads with hunter coming out the best.

Its not compareable to the hard, malicious stuff that archer and woosha used to lick their lips over.

Being truely tough requires two things
(1) having the body to carry it out - theres no benifit of little phil running thru blokes cause it goes against newtonian physics

and
(2) the mindset. This is the most important. It requires a love of not only inflicting pain but also making pain your b!tch. Guys like woosh and archer who were the hardest in the 90's would put their bodies on the line knowing full well pain was coming by the truckloads just to accomplish one of two things. To either win the ball or to hurt the opposition player.

all i hear is that chick tackles hard which is true but u have to do more than that. u cant just be in the side for that at one stage he has to get a kick. i agree with rockdog he has to be aiming for a 20 poss a game and if on forward line kick a couple of goals

The Eagles should release a CD of Woosha's greatest hits.

Including Wright, Modra, Grinter, Brereton, Abraham, Archer.

Did see him come off second best against Lockett one day. To his credit he got up and kept playing.

My favourite one was his hit on Archer. Most players would have been stretchered off, but amazingly Archer kept playing - didn't have any further influence on the game but at least he was out there.

Still, no brain no pain.

Your probably right. I guess we both have different definitions of 'tough'. I dont think of 'tough' as 'malicious' but I suppose you could think of tough as that way. Under your definition of tough I would have to say your totally right. Hunter I dont believe is a mean person, just hard at it.
