Its that time of year for school students, where they get their report cards.

It reminded me of a Herald Sun thing they run whereby teams are regularly compared on their individual players grading. I.E. whether they are an A, B, C, or D grade player.

OK so what are your thoughts of the Tigers list. Who is what, and who will study well over the off season and excel at school in '2009'? And will that mean a chance to go into the 'exam period'?

Ands don't be afraid to give pluses or F's! :D

UG (ungraded)

Graham Polak

A's: Deledio, Richo, Tuck, Moore

B's: Browny, Morton, Foley, Newman, Thurstfield, McGuane, White, Cotchin, Simmonds, Jack, Johnson

C's: Edwards, Polak, Jackson, Pattison, Rance,

D's: Hughes, King, Conners, Collins

F's:Collard, Graham, Pettifer, Meyer, Casserly, Polo

Off the top of my head anyway

A's for the players who were simply our best for the year

B's for the players who either emerged (McGuane, Jack, Morton, White, Cotchin) or the ones that stayed on track (Thurtsifled, Newman, Browny, etc)

C's for the guys who haven't yet established themselves in the team yet but should all play at least 10-15 games next year

D's for the guys who found themselves in and out of the team. They all have potential, but didn't kick on in the ways I hope they would.

F's for our delisted players + Polo, Pettifer and Collard. Collard spent 90% of the year playing in the 3rds, Pettifer couldnt get a gig in the seniors, Polo... well who knows as far as Polo goes

Sound interesting maybe everyone can do one player in alphabetical order.

Joel started off 2008 very poorly, all though he averaged 22 possesions in the first 3 games his inability to tackle and run had cost him his spot in the tigers line up for the next 4 games. When Joel had returned to the seniors he again did not have great form untill rd 13 against Port adelaide which saw him earn 39 possesions 23 marks and the win for the tigers. The rest of the year Joel had regained some of his past form and had won the game for the tigers against Essendon and Brisbane to follow on from his saving mark against the power. In conclusion Joel's 2008 season had many low points and high points but was not as strong as his past seasons.

After kicking 35 goals in 10 or so games a few years ago Browny looked like he was going to restore success to the club. One broken leg and numerous complications later and we are still looking. After the last two seasons Browny was a great unknown. He had a lukewarm start to the season playing important roles in our round victory, our draw to the dogs and our galiant defeat to Hawthorn. Once he started to get going in the middle of season he was consitsantly kicking bags of 2 and 3 a match and was acting well with fellow small foward Mitch Morton in 3 of his last 4 games he kicked bags of 4, 3 and 4 which helped keep our season alive. After becoming injured against Adelaide, with our finals hopes over, Browny was rested for the rest of the season with under an injury cloud. A full preseason should do him good.

I wonder if I could do this instead of my uni assignment? Wonder what they would have to say at good old Deakin? Bags doing Richo.

By the time I have finished my last submission for the year, Richo will have been done.

If Jack Riewoldt is still available, I will have a go later this week. I rate the guy.

If you're gonna rate them, try not to be biased towards those you like/dislike.
Gourdis and Collins, who spent most of their time in the thirds with a "D", but JON and Silvester, who played almost every game in the 2's and JON spending time in the seniors, yet they're graded "E"'s?

The basis for that grading was on a number of factors. Not only ability, but on what they have achieved as well.

The D's were all rated according to having played the majority of VFL games, but also showing promise and talent to warrant a pass mark.

I take your point that JON played seniors...but lets be blunt he's been s***house. a person taken pick 8 in the draft has higher expectations, as such they are graded more harshly in my opinion. You only have to look at any thread in the entire Richmond board to hear people make a mockery of him. While I don't agree with it (the kids still young), its warranted as many players taken in the same draft have shown some potential of improvement. You just can't get a selection for pick 8 wrong!!!!

Silvester? Just to make sure JON didn't feel lonely. Plus he appears to not have the goods to make AFL. :thumbsd:

Harsh. JON had a good year in the VFL... just couldn't step up to the AFL. I thought he took a few steps forward this year (small ones ;)), probably a D mark but not an E. Gourdis did NOTHING. ZIP. And you wouldnt expect him to. To rate him higher than JON, on this year alone, is rubbish. Its not a "rate this player's potential" thread. Its rate their season. As for Sylvester, the guy was a VFL rep, he was one of the best full backs in the VFL, its just that he wasnt needed. Hes not on the senior list anyway...just insurance. To give him an E is ridiculous because his season was good. Probably a B if you are completely honest. Just that he wasnt required. That being said, he gets a Z for potential because he just isnt going to get any better than a solid VFL defender.
