Davey: Played his worst game for the season. Missed a couple of chances to get a goal and couldn't find the ball that much. Was totally outclassed in the middle when he ran through. However we can't expect him to be great every week and I'm sure he'll bounce back.
Dyson: Was played in a negating role on Montagna I assume and in that he did well. It would have been better to see him get a little bit more of it himself but he showed that he's improving other sides of his game. Not a great game but some good signs for his future.
Fletcher: Not as good as we can expect from Fletch. Didn't see much of it in general play and wasn't able to use it as well from kickouts either (out kickouts were bad all night though, not always the person doing the kickouts falut). Held his opponents moderatly well.
Hille: Was one of out best, if not the best. Great leadership and influence, helped us get back in it and ran really hard.
Houli: His best game for the club and one of the best on the field. Used the ball really well and ran hard. Showed off his excellent goalkicking again.
Laycock: Was really bad. Didn't look switched on and was lazy around the ground. Needs a good kick up the bum and some clear direction on what he needs to do. Needs to take ownership and responsibility at stoppages like Hille does and run harder. Kicked another goal, one each game this season, but it's not enough.
Lloyd: Was swamped by St. Kilda in defence and couldn't get into the game.
Lovett: Needs some mental composure to go with his somtimes excellent composure on the ball. Showed in flashes but went off the boil many times too.
Lovett-Murray: Looked a little uncertain in his forward role. His forward pressure was good, but didn't give us enough going for goal.
McPhee: I thought he was pretty ineffective. One somewhat selfish (Mal was inside waiting for the handball) goal late on doesn't show much. Didn't hold the structure as well as he has in previous weeks.
Michael: Was ok but struggled to hold things together down back with all the balls comming in. Can't blame his efforts though.
Monfries: Didn't look like he was AFL quality this game. Too small and didn't seem to keep the gameplan flowing.
Nash: Quality disposal at times but needed to make more of a defensive impact. Like Fletch had trouble at the kickouts.
Pears: Followed up last week by getting quite a few early touches. Last week he looked off the pace but this week was much better. Hope to see him better again next week.
Rama: Uses it excellently. His defensive game isn't as crash hot though. Hope to see more of his round 1 quality after a few sub-par games.
Reimers: Composed and efficient use of the ball. Didn't pay Milne enough respect in the third and fourth--possibly got a bit carried away with the charge we made--and Milne hurt us with a hand in three key St. Kilda goals in the end.
Ryder: Great down back on Riewoldt, helped our structure and flow a bit when he went forward but didn't get his hands on it himself.
Slattery: Bad early. Some silly free kicks and the like. Improved a heap in the third but we need to see him play a full game like that.
Stanton: Great goal kicking again, excellent use of the ball. I would like to see him assert some more leadership on the ground but otherwise I think he was ok. Ran hard despite copping Leigh Fisher (who demolished Goodes round 1) and found enough of the football.
Watson: Got a lot of it but was beaten in the middle. Hard to judge his game that well considering how we were smashed in the midfield all night. Did some great work at times (brilliant work on the boundary in the third) but needs help; struggles when he has to hold it together himself.
Welsh: Looked behind the pace of it which is to be expected. Didn't do much up forward early but showed quality down back later in the game. Should expect more once he's match attuned.
Winders: Has just been average so far this year. Nothing to get enraged about, but not a whole lot to get excited about either. Hope to see some improvement from now on.
