The Players who's form/impact on team I am most excited about would be;

Morrison - showing that he will consistently be a 20+ possie player, bit slow but know's how to find it, Disposal is better than I expected as well

Shaw, R - I thought he was gone for all money, hopefully can be used as our number one tagger, has the pace to go with anyone

Fanning - With the new ruck rules, could be anything, rarely beaten in any centre bounce I have seen, also seems to know how to get the ball around the ground (I was worried he would just be another Clarke from Adelaide). Once he tidies up his Skills, could be the tap ruckman we have been looking for, makes you wonder if the pies has prior knowledge of the upcoming ruck rule changes!

Caracella - Fills the void left by the departure of N Davis

Rowe - Seriously, this boy could be anything

Thoughts? anyone excited about someone else?

Anthony Rocca - free of injury I expect him to dominate in 2005 and take the pressure off Taz

Brodie Holland - has the potential to be a creative goalkicking offensive midfielder. Let Rhys and Licca do the tagging.

Rowe - confident, backs himself, creative, prepared to take risks.

Cole - our best young player.

I'd love it if Cole had Rowe's head. The combination would be one of the best players in the comp.

Didak: I think Didak will bring out all of his talent this year. If he can go through the home and away season, injury free, then Didak will be unstopable. I think Mick should try Didak in the centre with, Bucks, Holland, Licuria, Woewodin etc.. to see how he adapts to the way the mid-feilders play, because he is a skinny bloke, and he can run, so thats why i would like to see him in the mid-feild. But even if he doesnt get a run in the middle im sure he will have an outstanding season.

J. Rowe : When Rowe was picked up at no.60 in the 2003 National Draft, he was considered by Mick Malthouse as a very suprised pick for a late player. Made his AFL Debut during his first year in AFL Football, and played 8 of the last 9 matches. He is a certain long term midfielder and has everything going his way to be a successful player. He has a cool head under pressure, He has pace, He has potential to be something. The main con, is that he has used these skills.
Rowe has had a very good pre-season from what I have heard, and has shown that in all 3 pre-season matches so far. He played very well, which suprised me in the first week against Richmond, and was one of a couple that could lift his head high after the WC Eagles match up in Darwin. Last week he spent little time on the ground, but he found the ball several times, and used it. Mike Sheahan had Julian Rowe on the wing in the Collingwood Best 22, before the Wizard Cup started. I would think many Collingwood supporters would have agreed, and AFL Followers and Audiences would have thought, who is this guy. Mike got it spot on. Julian Rowe looks like a best 18 player, and at such a young age, he may even help in the spot of replacing Nathan Buckley.

Hope to see Didak in the midfield he could excel in there.
Morrison & Caracella, can't wait to see how they go in the black & white.
Would love to get a good look at T.Cloke but I might have to wait a while.

I have always liked Julian Rowe ever since he started playing for the pies, Hopefully this year he can do a bit more because i want to see him be a very good player.

I cant wait to see Caracella out on the field with a Collingwood guernsey on kicking goals/setting up goals while tackling hard and applying lots of pressue on the oppositions backline.

Morisson has great composure and will help out our backline a fair bit this year, Everyone was saying he has a poor disposal, from what i saw he has an alright kick and average hands.

Tarrant - Hopefully he can regain the form he had in 02-03? and kick straight!

Whats the go with Dane Swan?

I thought he looked alright last season in the games I saw him play but I've heard nothing of him this pre season.

Nothing special about him, hes just another midfielder. Big chance to be delisted at the end of 2005 unless he improves considerably.

Lots from other clubs but nothing too exciting about the Collingwood list for 2005. I think we are in for a rather long year .....
Oh, sorry, there's that Buckley fellow, he looks promising !

People talk about replacing Buckley. Sometimes I think we forget that Buckley was picking up 30+ possessions from the age of 21. I don't see anyone on our list that can do that. I can't see anyone on any list doing that at 21. Judd may be a gun but Buckley has been dominating football from a young age for a long time.

im hoping Swanny can crack it for a few more games this season, playing in the backline and release Cole or Lonie or whoever else plays as a small defender into the midfield

but with Morrison joining the team, this scenario may be unlikely

Thank you - Couldn't agree more

If Buckley's injuries don't hamper him, he has potentially to the end of 2007. Admittedley, this will require Mick placing him at centre half forward when we are up, to apply pressure on defending teams, conversely at half back if we need poise in that area. Naturally, he will need to play in these positions if he is to play for 3 more years... Who knows?

Didak is the only player on our list who looks like he can come near Bucks over the next 10 years.

MUST play in the middle all year.

Couldn't disagree more, but each to their own. Buckley is a very strong hard running midfielder who stands at 6 foot 2. Didak is a flashy nimble footed player who doesn't look close to have the wind tank that Bucks has. There is no obvious replacement for Bucks or anyone that will be able to dominate a game like he does/did on the pies list.

Having said all of this, one of the kids could stand up but it will need to be one that has a good balance between footy smarts, strength and aerobic capacity.

Ben Johnson and Richie Cole, and hopefully Brayden Shaw are our best bets.

I'm suprised no one has gone with Ryan Lonie. Memories are short, I know, but his BOG performance against Richmond had me salivating. If he starts putting games like that together, forget exciting, we're looking at an All-Australian.

Very interested to see how Morrison goes, I think he could be a star in the making.

Caracella too, of course, ill have my eye on. Something tells me though he's spent.... not bad though, has a few medals to show for his time!!

PS: Hope you don't mind me posting on the Pies board, I just think Morrison could be a gun! ;)

I meant noone comes close to the potential / talent that Didak has, and I'll stand by this point til the cows come home.

IMO:

Young midfield players in order of 'potential to cover Bucks':
1. Didak
2. B.Shaw
3. Johnson
4. Cole
5. Rusling

Absolute daylight between Dids and Brayden. Johnno and Coley, while top players, are nothing like Buckley. Ruzz could be a smokey - LOVE this look of this kid. Of course he could be off the list a la Shack/Mullins/Nixon within 2 years....but hey we can all predict.

Of course, each to their own as you said.
