I get real skeptical anytime I hear a player has a virus, flu ,whatever ,then he comes out and has a blinder?seems to happen in basketball more than any sport, unless you come from windyhill....

I work in the field of medicine and see countless people who have the ,flu, cold,or what we call a coryza-type illness.A lot of these people work hard labour jobs and just want some medicine and go back to work without complaint.

everytime I hear a million-dollar earning athlete playing "tough" with the flu i cringe.really how much would it affect you?It would take a bit of stamina off you towards the end of the game, which in turn could make you lose a bit of focus but in the last qtr of a big game with thousands of people cheering would you really be thinking about you nose being a bit snotty?

If a person had the real definition of the flu he wouldnt be playing.he would be in bed.if your sick, your sick, thats cool.otherwise just shut up and play

I remember Tim Duncan once played with the flu, played about 20 minute and kept running away from the bench to throw up, I think he scored 14 points and got about 6 boards.

from my experience with the flu or coryza-type illness as you call it, i find that its just a bit more than just a runny nose. I recall having a high temp, and not being able to get out of bed..... If he did actually have the FLU its a pretty good effort, also depends how bad he is feeling as well.

my point exactly.most of them dont have the flu,it is just a beat-up,just shut up and play the game

jordan made it a herculean effort. others are doing it just to make the public think they're playing through a life threatening illness.

derek fisher come back to utah after being with his sick child in NY - that's a courageous effort.

I do agree, but-

It seems to be with elite athletes of all sports that an illness such as a cold affects them greatly, I know in cycling that a rider will complete a stage of the tour de france with a broken collarbone but they pull out all the time with the flu.

The only reason people think its a herculean effort by jordan is because of who he is. If it was anyone else it would have just been another game
