As usual we hear the critics attacking the same players without any evidence. Bevan played well on Sunday and won't be dropped. I imagine the only change will depend on Jolly's fitness and if they want to play Mathews in a tagging role on one of the midfielders.

"Mathews has played on Power every game for the last 5 years and Luke averages 11 possesions on him."

"Jack on Adcock, Jude on Johnstone, Mathews on Power, Ablett on Lappin and Kirk on Black rather than Jack on Adcock, Ablett on Johnstone, Bevan on Power, Kirk on Black and one of Bird or Jude trying to shut down Lappin."

"Mathews averages 15.8 possies a game over his career, Bevan's "best game" resulted in 14."

"(Re: Last weekend) Two goals, a contested mark and three clangers."

Not good enough?

The thing Bevan has going for him is that he is very fast. If we are talking a straight swap for Mathews, I think Bevan is probably offering us more right now. Plus he can take a contested mark and kick a goal. Like Macca he's a much maligned player. And his disposal has cost us a lot in the past. But if he gives us that same intensity at the contest, and a bit of forward pressure like he did against Port, then I'd say he's doing all that's needed of him.

Last year Roos gave everyone who'd earned their stripes another go. And we saw the result: a one-paced midfield that was simply incapable of producing the sort of footy that was developing in the teams around us. Our tackling dropped right away (probably because we were finding it harder to get the contests when the games broke open on us), and as we opened up team after team burned us. By the end of the year Roos had had enough. And we had Schneider, Dempster and even Jude on the chopping block.

Bevan won't get dropped from what I've seen so far. Roos will give Bird a few games but he'd be gone well before Bevo. But if Bilbo can get a bit more interested in the off the football stuff, at least we won't see him in the side as a forward.

Going to be interesting to see what happens with Fossie, Mathews and Crouch all putting their hands up again.

He peforms the exact same as Crouch and Mathews, but far worse. And no, he was no-where near the rising star.

You obviously have no idea mate. He finished 3rd in the Norwich rising star behind Jared Rivers and Aaron Davey in 2004 in his debut season after being promoted off the rookie list! He has more of a dip than many others including benny (get off the treadmill) matthews and after a solid performance deserves to be in the team. No question.

Not hard to come third in a year where Jared Rivers won. And third is not 'near' winning. It's like saying the Kangaroos were near winning a premiership last year, they only lost the prelim by 80 points.

no chance of Jack getting dropped?...he only got 9 touches on the weekend, any reason for the low numbers? people have told me that he is a chance to play most games this year.

No chance at all. I am sure that others would agree Jack has jumped a bit in the pecking order after his first couple of games this year.
As for the weekend, he went down twice and looked gone for the day (was the second time) but has been cleared by club doc and will definetely get more of it this Saturday night.

I was really surprised when i found out that he only had 9 touches, it seemed like he had it a lot more. All of those touches were quality anyway and from watching him closely i saw that he was putting alot of pressure on the opposition. Also, as EatBig pointed out he did go down twice.

Getting concussed twice (the second time requiring two trainers to help him walk off the field) might have had something to do with it. :D

Kid is an absolute little mongrel. :thumbsu:

I'd say 3rd outta 22 is closer than not.

Also note: Roos came 4th.

Exactly. Bevan deserves credit for his achievements. Think about it. 3rd out of 22 of all players drafted at all clubs including previous years draftees who had not yet played. Not bad by someone who is off the rookie list. Bedford is just letting his overall negativity cloud his judgement. If he cant acknowledge a great effort by a young swan in his first season then you have to wonder about how much he really ''supports'' the swans!

bedford is being realistic, mate
bevan's achievement back a few years was triffic, and good on him
but the problem some of us have with him is that he has not developed since then, his skills and decision-making remain huge concerns
he's hard at it, no question at all about his attitude, and is one of the best one-on-one tacklers in the league
but after all this time in the league he needs to be doing more or he WILL find his spot in the 22 under pressure
