Please explain....

why Thornton (not mentioning any names ) and amongst others, waits on the opposition player to kick or handpass the ball, instead of running toward him and tackling.
The worst part is when a player is only 2 meters or so away, and we stand there waiting for him to kick it. Why are we waiting for him to find someone to kick it to?
Many times i have watched our players run along side of the opposition player, and yet they don't run at him to tackle.

Don't you think running toward the opposition player to tackle would put him under pressure?
It would give the opposition less time to find someone to kick or handpass it to.
I have seen way too many goals scored all because we did't run towards the opposition player and tackle him.
Whats your thoughts?

Instead of going at the man an risk overcommitng an being passed they try an keep them in a bad area so that they dont have as many options with there disposal.

Why pick Thornton,was he the only one who did it on the weekend!!!The only time any one went to an opponent was after the game to shake hands,and oh boy fancy shaking hands with them.Would have been like holding a dead fish in your hand.

In one sense yes it is a form of defense in other sports, but in Basketball it is always with the intention of stopping the dribble, and forcing a bad pass or turnover. This usually requires second and third efforts.

Our blokes arn't desperate enough to do the latter, so it ends up looking a bit like the half time footy with a bunch of kids looking at the bloke with the footy hoping for the ball to come their way.

Absolutely!

Josh Head doesn't seem to be on the radar with respect to getting a game tho - he hasn't been mentioned by Harves once. I hope I'm wrong tho and he's picked this week, has been in fine form in the wafl.

I think you'll find alot of the time they do that as there is an opposition player free behind them as well so they have to judge it otherwise players can get drawn right in and the ball gets handpassed straight over their head and the other player runs off with the ball, Or sometimes players will charge at the guy with the ball and he can easily just weave out of the way to avoid them. It's a real balancing act

I personally felt that Josh Head deserved the spot more than Scotty Thornton.

He is way ahead of Thornton i reckon. Most probably give alot more due to the way he has had to get back on an AFL list. I would say he would be more desperate plus has been playing good footy in the WAFL. The games i saw he was better than Thornton.

We've been doing it for years. I assumed it was a Connolly tactic that's been bred into the players - maybe it was and it's just hard to breed out of them.

In reality, all it does it give the opposition players confidence that they can get kicks or handballs away under no pressure. So even when we do put direct physical pressure on the ball carrier, it has little effect because of the additional confidence the opposition has.

It's why Parkin said we had an 'unaccountable brand' of footy. Players became accountable for zones, not opponents. Which would have been a great tactic if we were playing against zones.

If you are watching on the TV.....

I think you will find that they aren't as close as you think, You may think 2 mtrs...but it may be 4-6 mtrs...Also, it seems some don't hear on the field when the Umps say play on, Play on. though we hear it through the Umps mikes(they are miked up now)

Someone from our side has to get the ball before he can be shepherded.We far too often don't get the ball.
I know I am being very harsh and bitter but geez I am soooooo very pissed off with our non performance on Sunday.

who exactly are the right people?

hart and scwhab although having overseen some shocking trades have overall been in charge during our most successful period on and off it.

Cameron is going now, we will need to find a qaulity replacement. Wont be easy.

Harvs is I think the right bloke. He has blooded youngsters, and will continue to do so. Is straight forward, hard working (it seems) and has an almighty task of turning a club that is known for on field laziness and unaccountability into a success in three years. not easy.
