The reproduction of articles on BigFooty has gotten a bit out of control lately, and the boys upstairs have received a polite request from Fairfax to remove material.

The Official BIG rule is now:

As of now, entire articles are not to be posted. This includes in private boards and social groups.

Moderators have been given a list of links provided by Fairfax, these should be edited within the next few days. Please follow any direction from your board mods, and edit any entire articles you see while surfing around the site. Thanks.

Please follow this new rule as we don't want BigFooty to get into any trouble.

Fair enough providing a link, but only quoting a paragraph?

Maybe if Unfairfax didnt flood the interwebz with so much junk we wouldnt have to have another site that picks their useless articles apart.

But in truth, the "request" from Fairfax is fair enough. It is their content and they get no ad revenue from punters reading it here rather than over at realfooty.com.au.

Fair use is fair enough.

Prior to this thread I thought posting the full article here was an unofficial rule as I kept seeing people get grumpy with those who posted the article link only, and inevitably someone else would post the full text a few posts later.

But - as catempire said - it's entirely understandable given the loss of click-throughs and ad revenue by BFers reading the text here.

The rule always has been pretty much what is decribed in the OP, however it hasn't been well publicised or well enforced.

We have asked that give us due recogintion when using BF material
