The EFL are not keen to trial or implement it Cliff. Every time the point system has been spoken about at EFL Board level it has been squashed. It appears the Clubs with money don't want a level playing field.

On reading the articles, as part of AFL Victoria the EFL doesn't appear to have any choice eflreceiver.

If it isn't a blanket job across the state then it won't work at all. As part of AFL Victoria I believe they will be compelled to.

It would need to be a better system than what has been in play in the Casey Football League.
Clubs like Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Pakenham and Berwick are in growth corridors and have 3-4 feeder junior clubs and can keep their points down. Clubs like Doveton, Hampton Park & Keysborough rely on recruiting players which means higher points & $$$. Keysborough left the league this year. It's a short sighted policy. A salary cap is probably fairer, but impossible to police.

Points system in place next year, combined with salary cap the year after

Anyone have an idea how many points some of the teams would have had this year (not including the 2 point deduction next year) ?

The points system is long overdue. I believe that it will be 50 points for the 22 players selected in a club's senior team next year.
The points are expected to be reduced over the following two seasons (my mail is 47 or 48 in 2017 and then stays at 45 from 2018 onwards).

Any salary cap is a waste of time IMO as there are too many ways to get around it:

1. Gun player gets $1000 per game - sponsor pays $300 and club pays $700 and club declares $700 in documentation to league and in its financials. Excess cannot be traced.

2. Gun players gets a portion of his payments taken out of the gate money and pays player cash in hand club. Club declares a lesser figure in documentation and financials. Excess cannot be traced.

3. The 'Melbourne Storm' two sets of books - one correct one and one to be provided as part of any audits.

If they want AFLV funding, etc. then I am sure they will need to adopt it. The Picola league in northern Victoria is refusing to bring it in apparently.
True, I believe that AFL Victoria's response has been, any player recruited from the Picola League will be valued at ZERO points to the team that recruits them. Could be a few players poached from there, particularly by teams from surrounding comps!

For all leagues that don't sign onto the points system will have all their players valued at 1 point, (I don't think you can go lower than 1 point), when they move leagues this also applies to VAFA, players. It will be interesting to see if VAFA and other leagues change their stance.

Points only in 2016 (50 per side).
Points and cap from 2017.

You will find that the points will drop in by 2018.

2016 - 50 points per senior side
2017 - 47 or 48 points per side plus cap
2018 onwards - 45 points per senior side plus cap

Cap is unenforceable (as it is proving in grassroots footy in SA),but points is long overdue.
