I was just wondering why you richmond supporters are so happy with polak's game yesterday?

who cares if he kicked two goals? you guys got him to play CHB. so why wasn't he playing there? when richo is in the side he will hardly spend anytime plaing in the forward line.

now don't get me wrong, two goals is a good effort. but will he have the chance to kick goals in the H&A season?

Polak is 22, Richo is just about finished, who knows how many games Richo will play this season. I think Polak will mostly play in defence, but we can certainly mix it up and put him forward. Also his 2 goals yesterday were crumbing goals from the goal line, wouldnt get carried away, but he certainly led up well from CHF.

Also Joel Bowden was the AA CHB last season, people say he will play better not being on quality opponents but im not so sure. When he plays on the 3rd tall or just an average forward he gets lazy and the average player dominates anyway. Does ok on the better forwards and still gets heaps of the footy.

He will play the same as Hunter does for the Eagles, play down back but when Richmond need him they can swing him forward. Very good pick up.

Exactly.

As I have answered the OP before I will say it again.

We are excited because Polak has been one of our best players every week in the preseason. He has pinch hitted up forward for a goal every match I believe while playing very good footy at CHB 90% of the time.

We aren't excited about his 2 goals. We're excited about his form and also I like how the club is publicly saying "his attitude has changed completely since he was at Freo"

His training has been outstanding as the NAB Points suggested.

There has just been so much positivity around him it's hard to be critical ;)

i do agree with this. was at the game and he barely spent any time in the backline. his form has been good but you would think you would give him more time down back to get comfortable with guys like bowden, gas and newman. if we had just one more good KP defender i would love to see him play more forward than back tho!

the guy is a pure forward, if he can kick straight he will rip it up

but because of hacks like gaspar and hall he is going to play chb to "free" up bowden

Why does Joel need to be freed up? All that will happen is he will be forced to play on a crap player that will have a job to keep Joel out of the play. Because he can be a bit lazy he plays better on the taller power forward as opposed to more agile player that he will cop when freed up (there is no way other teams will allow him to play loose across half back, maybe his brother could get away with it but not Joel). Playes like Fevola, Neitz etc dont really have any defensive skills so Joel still gets plenty of disposals when on these guys.

a polak/bowden/thursfield backline i dont mind

its when gaspar plays joel gets more freedom and starts to get a big head and counts his own possesions

Must say McGuane looked decent yesterday :thumbsu: So if Thursfield replaces Gas, McGuane can the occasionly replace Polak allowing him to go forward.

Polak's been OK in the preseason but it means Jack **** come round 1.

He's got to keep working hard at his game.

True...

But SO FAR there has been nothing but positive signs and AT THIS RATE he will shine :thumbsu: :D

Just needs to steadily improve from here on end.

mcguane is all heart

the kid should not be wasted at coburg get him in the 1's asap

i know he is skinny but maybe with the new rules he can just come over the top etc instead of being pushed under the ball

i just hope the kid gets a proper run and gets to play some crap teams instead of coming in against WC or sydney when we have injuries

bowden/polak/mcguane/thursfield/raines/white/newman

if you have balls do it terry

I saw Polak v Geelong and whilst he didn't set the world on fire, he did much better than a sooky looking Gaspar. He's a big bloke with good hands and he seems to have a calmness about him that suggests he will go ok under pressure.

So what if we swing him forward, it's all good.

Geez if McGuane can do a Raines this year, our defense suddenly looks decent and we can finally say goodbye to Ray Hall as a KPP back.

exactly

people said polak and gaspar played the same because they got 4 kicked on them but the difference is cam coomey is a good player while bottens is a handbag

atleast polak was linking with raines and blocking etc instead of gaspar the rat who just lets his mates get smashed

please fev kick 10 round 1 and end the misery!

I really dread this year with Gaspar at fullback. Along with his aging, injury prone body, the new rules are going to sort him out as he is slow and relies on wrestling to thwart the full forward. Some of the quicker ones are gonna murder him. He even made ottens look good!

He was crap against Geelong but against melbourne he kept his man goalless.

Apparently he looked quite serviceable (I was at the forward's end in awe of Schulz ;))

Didn't see the Melbourne game, but Polak was taken to the cleaners against Geelong. Mooney kicked 4 on him and I'm pretty sure he was also switched on to Ottens when Ottens got 1 or 2 of his 4. He was better than Gaspar merely because Gaspar was flogged by Ottens and didn't do any attacking either. Polak took some strong marks and set up some offensive plays, but it's a fairly big stretch to say he was one of our best that game.
