POLDA - Reuniting the Seattle boys

I just finished a live draft for a 20 team league with h2h scoring. The cat's are points, fg%, ft%, rebounds, blocks, steals , assists, 3pm.

This is how my selections went down

12 - Rashard Lewis - SF
29 - Ray Allen - SG
52 - Mehmet Okur - PF,C
69 - TJ Ford - PG
92 - Nick Collison - PF,C
109 - Boris Diaw - PF,C
132 - Chucky Atkins - PG
149 - Devon Harris - PG
172 - Bobby Simmons - SG,SF
189 - Nenad Krstic - PF,C
212 - Martell Wester - SG,SF
229 - Mardy Collins - PG

During the draft a manager who couldnt get onto the live draft due to being at uni with the java blocked took Mike Bibby in the fourth round and said via msn that he would trade him to me for Collison if I selected him. Hence my lineup will likely be..along with last years stats

PG - Ford.. 44%.. 81%.. 14pts.. 7.9ast.. 1.3stl.. 0.3triples
SG - Allen.. 44%.. 90%.. 26pts.. 4.1ast.. 1.5stl.. 3.0triples
SF - Lewis.. 46%.. 84%.. 22pts.. 2.4ast.. 1.1stl.. 2.5triples
PF - Diaw.. 53%.. 68%.. 9.6pts.. 4.8ast.. 0.4stl.. 0.2triples
C - Okur.. 46%.. 76%.. 17pts.. 2.0ast.. 0.5stl.. 1.6triples
UTL - Bibby.. 40%.. 83%.. 17pts.. 4.7ast.. 1.1stl.. 2.1triples
UTL - Atkins.. 43%.. 81%.. 13pts.. 4.6ast.. 0.7stl.. 1.5triples

As you can see I have pretty much disregarded REBS and BLKS completely.
I Look to be very strong in 3PM and FT% whilst being pretty good at FG%, PTS,AST and STLS.

Note that Atkins will now start at Denver, Bibby no longer has an injured hand and that Allens production will go down but fg% should improve.

What do you think of my lineup? Will I be strong enough in my planned category's? Is there someone I should be trading for? Which selections of mine were terrible?

Please give me your say, thanks

Allen at 29 was a great pick. I think you should've taken a big man at 12. It would've set up your team nicely. A Gasol, Ming, Bosh, Stoudemire, or even Duncan.

You're definately strong in 3's, but in an 8-cat league, disregarding TWO categories is very risky. You'll basically lose those most weeks. I don't think Okur was necessary at 52, especially with your first two picks.

Make the trade for sure, but I'd say that another week category will be FG%. That stuck out to me because you don't have a high-volume big man shooter, while Okur, for a big man, is a very poor FG% guy.

If I had that team, I'd try to even it out a little more. Being a 20-team H2H, I would've tried instead of dominating categories, just even it out and most of the time, you'll get the W.

Cheers for the tips realsniper. Just another question as I am relatively new to NBA fantasy (havent played it competitivley before, only with mates before). What kind of tallys would I be lookin at on average you would need to get in each catergory to beat your opponent.. basically what I am asking is what would you rate as a good number for fg,ft,pts... and so on to beat you opponent most weeks? cheers agin for the advise

Haha. This is only really my 2nd serious year playing, as years previous I would draft and not even look at my team. But I learnt a lot last year.

I'm not sure about what you should aim for. All leagues are different in their settings, so I don't know. Obviously it's less for this 20-team league because depth will be important, although you only play 7 players.

I recently had a 20-team live draft on Yahoo! as well. I also had the 12th pick.
Roster Positions: PG, SG, SF, PF, C, Util, Util, BN, BN, BN
Stat Categories: FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO

I ended up with this team:
(12) Pau Gasol PF,C
(29) Vince Carter SG,SF
(52) Rasheed Wallace PF
(69) LaMarcus Aldridge PF,C
(92) Randy Foye PG,SG
(109) Morris Peterson SG,SF
(132) Jameer Nelson PG
(149) Travis Outlaw SF,PF
(172) Francisco Garcia SG,SF
(189) Jason Maxiell SF,PF

I decided to go big early, because I didn't want to go reaching for them later on. In a 20-team league where you must start a centre and PF, I thought this was the way to go. I'm relatively happy with it: I think my balance is good. That was the strategy I took going into it, to make a balanced team. I took a punt on some sophomores, so I don't know how that'll turn out.
Centres like Noah, Curry, Wilcox, Collison are some team's #1 centres, which I do not think is a good thing, even IF they decided to go small-ball.

I would maybe try trading Rashard Lewis. With Allen, Okur, Bibby, 3's are extremely good. Go for a more rounded player I think.

Why is the guy going to trade Bibby for Collison for? Great deal for you if he ends up doing it.

I agree with sniper. In head to head winning a cat by heaps or by little still equals the same. Krstic at 189 was a good pick too.

Sniper - I reckon Foye will be a good pick at 92. nba.com has projected him at .446% .858% 13.6pts 4.1rb 5.1ass 0.9st which if true is great for 92nd pick.

Aldridge at 69 is good too IMO.

the reason was because he couldnt access the draft from his computer because of java problems but he was still on msn talking with me as i was telling them the draft results. when bibby got taken with his pick i said i would trade my next pick for him and give him whoever he wanted me to take, he wanted collison, so i drafted him after he verbally agreed to make the deal

Yeah cos he didnt know that on Yahoo Autopick, it actually locks out other positions when u have enough.

ie. He thought he was going to get like 5-6 PG's, and no big guys, when in actual fact, the auto pick evens that out.

He wouldn't do the trade in hindsight.

The thing is, yes, you may think you dominate a category, and therefore lock it in every week, but I don't think you'll be as successful in the 'lock' categories as you think you will be. And the categories you disregard, you won't win a lot of those, unless you come up against a really bad team.

The only 'lock' category I see for that team is 3's, and yes, he should actually win that category every week, because he is 'that' strong in it, unless the other team and Arenas and Mike Miller and they go off. He should absolutely dominate that category.

But the rest are very 'iffy', and I can't see many rebound or block wins, because the team doesn't have potential guys who can block or rebound the house off even once in a while, which would've held him in good stead instead of the 3's.

Lewis and Allen are both top 15 players, so if a team is looking for 3's, I think you should be able to trade them for extra help in other categories. What players to target I'm not sure, because Allen and Lewis are in the draft position where many swingmen get drafted, in between the mark where Ming, Bosh, Gasol go and where the likes of Jefferson, Boozer, O'Neal, Okafor are getting drafted.
