The ad doesn't say masculinity is toxic - rather that it cam be and when it is , it's no good

Thread should be renamed 'Whingers whinging about whingers'

You know, it's not the implied message of the ad that bothers me.
It's the fact that it's a massive, soulless corporation and their marketing department somehow thinks a statement of their moral stance is somehow relevant and wanted.

Who the **** watches that and thinks "wow, Gilette are really modern thinkers and are doing good in this world. I want me some of those razors!".

That's a guy, not a girl.
In the advert yes .....but a fair proportion of Marketers in food / variety industry now are female ......so there's a 66% chance this advert was coordinated by a female Brand Manager

Females can have toxic personalities as well. I’m not sure why straight up w***ers are labelled with toxic masculinity when there’s an equal number of ares hat females.

Toxic females dont stalk men on their way home at night and rape and murder them
Personally this whole toxic crap is ridiculous.

But they way men and women do bad things is different.

Men do need to stop this whole rapey, murdery thing though. Not sure what these blokes are being taught as children.

Broken homes and abuse victims themselves most often.

Not absolutely 100%, but the statistics are pretty clear.

Toxic Masculinity is NOT:
- Having a beer with the boys.
- Barbecuing.
- Hunting/Fishing.
- Playing Sport.
- Taking the Piss.
- Enjoying traditionally masculine things.
- Having a beard.
Toxic Masculinity IS:
- Treating Women as sex objects.
- "Lad Culture" and "Locker Room Talk".
- Resorting to violence to resolve differences.
- Using "boys will be boys" as an excuse for bad behaviour.
- Feeling like it's not ok to talk about your emotions.
- Homophobia and fragility when males don't display "typically masculine" traits (wearing makeup, wearing different clothes, dancing etc).
- Domestic Violence.

*Edit* - Toxic Masculinity IS more outrage over a ****ing ad than over the murder of yet another woman in Melbourne.
Gillette hasn't got a problem with the top characteristics. They aren't attacking men for being masculine. They're tackling a societal problem that exists due to thousands of years of outdated, ridiculous gender roles. They're simply telling us blokes to try and be better people. How is that such a controversial statement?
If you're getting offended by the ad, you're missing the point and are probably a part of the problem.

Are you serious they need to use men as race models in a formula 1 event? :)

I think the real problem is everything is taken too literally these days and it allows those who have an attention- seeking or narcissitic persona to latch onto things and argue all over the primary intent of social media content. It’s ok to have an opinion, but not ok to just nitpick everything and forget what the original context/intent.

This is 100% the situation .....the nutter minority groups now have a voice much larger than they've ever had .....and they can make it appear this is a majority thinking
