The other factor is Van Rheenan. When we've got Kosi, Gardiner, Van Rheenan, Rix, why would we bother with Brooks? Because he can play forward?! Hah! We have more forwards than we know what to do with now.

Lyon inherited the list, because it was settled before he arrived. If he'd had his way, Brooks wouldn't even be there now.

As previously mentioned, van Rheenen has been in ok form in the reserves, but I don't think he's actually been named in the best yet. He holds his own against most VFL level rucks, but is a long way behind Gardiner, Kosi, Clarke, Rix, Brooks and even Blake. His skill level isn't great and he doesn't get a heap of the footy around the ground. He has made big improvement over the past six months, but we shouldn't go into the future assuming that he will be our number one ruckman for 10 years.

More forwards than we know what to do with?
1. Riewoldt - Gun player but not a reliable goal kicker. Best suited to leading up the wings
2. Gehrig - An erratic goal kicker who goes missing too often. Probably his last season
3. Watts - Completely unproven at AFL level and is producing similar results to Brooks (when he was playing forward) in the VFL

Then the players who can swing forward and take a grab are Kosi, Gardiner, Brooks and maybe Allen.

Well I did, and it looked like a goal from where i was sitting. But i guess you had a better view from your chair infront of your television, if you even bothered to watch it.

As far as I'm concerned, if the umpire calls it a goal, it's a goal.

Rix is way better because he is more agile and so far he seems to be goin alright in the ruck anyway

Definately not more agile than Brooks. True, he is going alright, but maybe it is time to see what Brooksy can do as he was a first round draft pick. The question is, do we settle for potentially second best or see what Brooks can produce rather than delist him at the end of the year after we had given up so much to get him.

He played against the western bulldogs and hawthorn (Round 3 & 8) I might of got the games wrong, but he has played two games this year. I didn't see him produce anything special at all.

His round 22 match against the Lions last year wasn't that good. Yes, he kicked three goals in the second quarter, but how often did the ball rebounded out of our foward 50? If the G-train was playing full foward for that quater (instead of brooks) he would of kicked 5-6. I don't think that three goals was actually that good (st.kilda dominated that quarter and lots of supply was heading to our foward 50 direction)

He's almost 27, he can't kick, he can't mark and he gets beaten regularly in the ruck. Why does he have a good future?

I'm with you mad-saint-guy. Rix's future is in the VFL. I admit he tries very hard, but he can not get the ball. How many times has he had more than 10 posessions? How many goals has he kicked? He is as bad if not worse than Trent Knobel.

I can not understand why most people on this site prefer Rix to Brooks.!!!!

Brooks - four goals and named in the best. I don't think the saints would drop doc clarke for Brooks. Could they play both Brooks and Doc, in the same team? I would say no, unless Brooks played the majority of the game as a forward.

Doc has done nothing all year. Great tap ruckman but in today's game you need mobility as well as the ability to win the hitouts, and he can't run. He's good in the first 10 minutes of games but runs out of steam too quickly.

In his 27 games Rix has had more than 10 disposals ONCE. He had his career-high 11 disposals (just 5 kicks) playing against Josh Fraser last year (Fraser had 20 disposals including 13 kicks and a goal).

Brooks in his 10 games (averaging about 40% game time) has also had over 10 disposals just once. He had 15 disposals, 8 kicks, 7 marks, 3 goals and 7 hitouts in 100 minutes of game time. His possession total and mark total are both higher than Rix's personal best, while he equal's Rix's career goal tally in that one game.

Rix is nothing but an undersized Trent Knobel. Knobel did nothing around the ground, but at least he won plenty of hitouts. Rix is an inanimate log around the ground and is consistently beaten in the ruck. If Brooks came in he would probably be beaten in the ruck as well, but at least he could hurt the opposition going the other way (ala Kosi).
