This thread will turn again when we next play the MCG and it takes monumental effort to kick a single goal, as is always the case.

Or if the suns is a slog :P

What about 1933

We didn’t play the same way in any of those years

I bet the defense was way more stifling back then...if the skill back then were anything like the team I play on here in the US, it's all about the 2.7 v 1.11 finishes!

Thank you... the vast majority of us have played in teams like yours (whether it be AFL or some other sport) but you are the only person I've seen admit it.

Unfortunately, I don't think the defence back then was all that good either considering the score lines

Running that much without subs will do it. I think allowing interchanges helps keep fatigue from ruining skills late. I think that was a good change whenever they implemented it. It's always been that way since I started watching.

As a woman (middle-aged), AFL was never an option for us. I played netball and was pretty good when I was in my teens, but after kids, the best I could do was get out there and have a go (not a pretty sight!). Finished up in my late 30s when I did a calf.

I can't remember when they implemented the interchange (maybe 2012*, but could have been much longer), but yes, I agree it was a good change.

I worry that any decrease in interchanges will increase injury and decrease skill levels, but I think this is likely to be one of the changes next year... :(

Edit: *1978!! Lol! It was the substitute I was thinking of which came in in 2011. Obviously my memory sucks!!

We have a team here in Sacramento, but now my son is doing swim team. Footy is from 10am-1pm Saturdays. Swim team is from 6am-2pm Saturdays. You'll never guess which won out! I agree with the interchange as it is. The guys get tired enough now that it starts to open up about red time in the 3rd quarter and then again halfway through the 4th quarter. The people in charge really like to mess with footy rules a lot I've noticed.

Lol! I had exactly the same problem... their choices were numerous field events including Hockey, Soccer, T-ball, NRL etc (9am - 1pm) or boogey-boarding (6.30am - 2pm), and of course, both chose the latter!!

The really young age at which players are allowed to play AFL (ie McCartin is 18) combined with speed and length of the games constitutes a real hazard if they reduce them any more. This is especially so for the younger overall teams like Brisbane, I think. It will be interesting to see what they do.
