I'm not sure we will be so passive
It might not be ‘passive’.
It clubs aren’t offering is 26R1 to move into this year, which is probably most likely given that next year is much stronger, our only feasible move up is with Essendon. We simply might not get any offers that are better than holding our picks.

If a bid doesn’t come until Melbourne, we get to use 11 (which will be 14, but is still pick 11 of open players). That’s not a bad outcome.

If we cant trade down (ie before Dean bid) then I expect we will be trading for points

You mean if we can’t trade up?

I don’t think so, because if we trade for points it will ruin our 2nd pick. The only reason to do that is if we’re trading a pick out, or if we think Ison is going to get bid on really highly.

Down in number, up in order :p

Twomey said we have had a look at dovastan. Said there’s a chance we just let 9 getting eaten up and have 11 get pushed back as part of matching points. Get a player before ison

Exactly, that's just due diligence.

Anyway here's what I'd do:

9, 11, 43 to Essendon for 5, 21, 30

5, 21, Sydney's 2027 F1 to West Coast for 2, 34, 53, 58, and their 2027 F2.

Pick 2 for player, picks 30, 34, 53, 54, 58 for bid matching, which will sit at 26, 30, 45, 46, and 50 when a Dean bid comes in.

Covers us all the way up to pick 7, but at say 14, we have plenty to pay for Ison. Probably relies on a bid coming after Melbourne.

Would be the best outcome. Pick him up with pick 41 in 2 years time like we did with Chesser.

Pretty sure first round picks get 3 years these days.

We won't let him go elsewhere. Eagles know this. It would be a dirty move though, just to move up 2 places in the draft...

We need to trade pick 9 and 11 before the draft if we feel that this is a serious threat of happening. I still doubt it though, we should just throw a threat back saying we won't match if the bid is that high... he's in no way a top 2 mix for this draft.

Yeah - we need to do something with picks 9 and 11 - just taking them to the draft is not really an option unless we feel we are going to call teams bluff

You'd likely still take them to the draft, with a live trade worked out, unless we get a good offer of future picks.
We won't have the list spots to trade them for extra points pre-draft.

Pick 9 -> Pies: (F1)

Pick 11 -> North: 25 + 26

As an example.

9 + 11 + 27F1(Swans) -> Rich: 4 + 38 + F2

F2(Rich) -> North: 26 + 46

Cut a couple more players for all I care.

The points required for a pick 2 bid will chew up 9 + 11 and give us a pick in the 30's back... even if we live trade, we still have to find the points... Eagles motivation is to move up 2 spots... if we get rid of those picks, that motivation goes and Dean gets bid on much later.

Or, I wouldn't mind if they bid on him at 2, we don't match. Love the kid, but he's not worth 2 top 10ish picks, he's a top 10ish pick himself. We're building a list back up here and despite committing to him, it's unreasonable to pay a pick 2 debt. If he was one of the very best in the draft - like Walker next year, fine.

From what I have been reading, this year's tiers are

1-3 disappointing
4-8 weak
9-20 very weak
21-35 crappy
36-50 really crappy
51+ undraftable

Pretty sure..... ;)

We live in a world where people are obsessed with “points”…. as if it’s an actual person you’re drafting.

“We will trade you Picks 9 and 11 for Pick 6, a pick in the late 20s and some other crap pick in the 40s.”

Before the draft points systems was a thing, no list manager would be making that trade unless it was Justin Reid or Fremantle’s list management from the 1990’s.

I suspect we trade 9 a future 1st for a top 5 pick and current/future 2nd. 11 for Dean.
I suspect that GC17 will come knocking on trade night for those picks and offer us pick 15 and a second round pick this year and a second next year. If a pick comes in the top 3 for Uwland, we might also get pick 18 instead of a second this year. Those two cover Dean at 7.

Why would Suns trade with us? Both clubs looking for more points, rather than moving up the order.

How about 9 & 11 for North Melbourne's 25, 26 and 46 and a swap of 2026 first rounders theirs for Sydney's. They can load up on KPP players of their choice.

I think Dovaston would be my likely pick. Him, Hayward, Ainsworth and Harry is a really nice dynamic forward line. Then we need to hope Moir, Kemp and Mots can make the leap.
Moir is alreday there - no "leap" required

Agree question mark on Kemp

Motts over Dovaston from the start of the season, then lets see if it remains that way by the end

We have list holes primarily in KPD, KPF, small forward. You could also argue ruck.

  • We are getting Dean, the best KPD in this draft - goes some way to addressing KPD issues.
  • We have Jagga back this year and next year we are getting Cody - addresses some midfield creativity.

Unless there is a KPF we love in this draft, I think getting a small forward like Dovaston is a smart move. Would make our forward line pretty threatening. McKay, Hayward, Moir, Ainsworth, Dovaston. Plenty of lead up at the ball carrier, defensive intent to lock it in, good foot skills, good aerial presence.

The only question is how Kemp returns I think he’s more of legit third tall now.
Or was pace big leap found his home forward before his injury he was taking contested pack marks.
Moir looks a beauty but plays a bit smaller slower not as explosive but better kick more mercurial.
Be intresting see how they play together.
Not sure on tactics but would be nice if we could limit Harry’s opportunity for head knocks maybe more like the way Cameron plays
