It's time to admit it. No matter what we got in return and how it all happened Polly is a significant loss to our team. The guy is an onfield leader at the Tiges now. I know they are crap at the moment but Freo stuffed it by not keeping him. He really impressed me today.

In the end through the mismanagement of him and his talent he had us over a barrel at the end of last year and we lost him for basically nothing.

I'm sick of Freo doing things like this. Add him to Clement and McPhee of guys we'll have to watch kicking butt for the next ten years when they couldn't get a game for us.

Good to see a Freo supporter say something positive about Polak :thumbsu:

The players weren't switched on early, and neither were the supporters. I think I was the only one booing him in the first quarter at the city end, disappointing effort people!

Polak was a unique situation. He didn't get along with Connolly, and due to his off field problems we didn't get a fair return. A couple of things conspired against us, some of which we can't discuss in these forums.

Someone on here was saying that freo wanted to keep him but he wanted to leave?

Besides, most people know Polak's problems weren't on the field, and the move may have been necessary to fix that up. I don't think we would have seen the same Graham Polak as we are seeing now if he had stayed out west.

raffrox, I've always been a big fan of Polly's, but in all honesty, who do you think he would replace in the 22? He doesn't play on an opponent ( McPhee is worse - superstar on his own, useless when he's made accountable) and his kicking has always been a little bit suspect. I really couldn't see him being ahead of Mundy, Thornton or Johnson in the Freo side, and I don't believe he is a forward, regardless of how much he wants to be.

if your offloading anymore players tigers wont mind having some sent their way. freo has got heaps of them floating around.

He is Playing the role he is good at LOOSE man. Did the same for us and did it just as well when we used him in that role. It is the only string to his bow, and its the only one he will ever have.

while i respect that polak had an average game the fact he didnt get along with the coach and his off field problems could have been a bigger disadvantage that what he produced at fremantle . lets not be too hasty to judge its round 12 and while he is playing ok any backman should, in a team thats not one a game yet . but must agree he might be a player we trade our first 3 draft picks to get back in 3 or 4 years time due to hisinfluence in the game .( i hope by then we have learnt not to do this anymore )

I reckon the same could be said about Rodan. Had his chance at tigerland, didn't do anything and now he is a different player at Port. Would have never done the same thing at Richmond.

Sometimes the change of environment does wonders for a player :thumbsu:

I think that's been pretty evident all round for our trades this year. As a team Freo had moved on from Polak and Medhurst, and both seem to be fitting in quite well at their new clubs. Taz and Solly both reached a point where they needed a change of scenery and I don't think we could have asked any more of either of them (other than Solly bringing his umpire/mrp blinder with him from Essendon - how on earth did he have a 5 year good record when he got here?)

We don't off load them, you pinch them. Hopefully when we are really shit and anchored to the bottom we can pinch some of your players.

Definately.

My 20c worth is the Polly seems to have thrived on someone believing in him. He showed plenty of what he showed today at Freo not consistently. Some of his marks today would be top shelf in any era.

And I don't think we miss him as much as Richmond needed him.

It's a bit of the James Clement argument with the 'who would he replace in the team' line. I've seen more than a few people say, we had Parker, didn't need him. Thats obvious bunk and I reckon Polly has a fair chance of being the same.

If you have the Freo Wall to Wall dvd check out Pollys play on Brown in the Lions game we just win. Definitely has the ability to be a big defender. We need big defenders IMO.

Rubbish. Rodan is still averaging the same amount of possessions at Port that he was at Richmond. The only thing is that Port can afford (or at least chooses to) carry a player of Rodan's ilk. We don't miss Rodan one little bit. Edwards comes in to our team and is 20 times the player that Rodan will ever be.
Sorry Freo fans. I know the rules and I realise that this is your board but couldn't help myself.

I don't think Polly would replace either Grover or McPharlin though. If we didn't have Tarrant and had to move McPharlin forward for some reason, then yes, there is possibly a spot for Polly. Johnson is way ahead of him in terms of versatility and I think both Thornton and Mundy would be played ahead of him. There is no chance he would get a game in our forward line, unless the unthinkable happened and we lost 3 or 4 of our key forwards at the same time.

In the end, it doesn't really matter. He wanted to leave and he got to where he wanted to go. The trade helped us to get Tarrant, and there is no way I'd give him up for Polly. Hopefully he has a long and successful career, but I think the move was the best thing for everyone.

Polak played really well. Good luck to him and the tigers. We didn't get a lot at the trade table but in saying that Polak was a risky pick up. The Tigers gambled on Polak and it looks to have paid them a healthy dividend.

I'm pretty sure that if he had of stayed it would've been a frustrating year for all concerned.

Thats more my issue I think. I agree with what you are saying Tony and I think good teams make it work with guys who have talent.

We didn't unfortunately.

Andrew Embley at WC is an example of how it can work. He was a lunatic party-goer early in his career, now hes a Norm Smith medalist.

You're deadset kidding yourself if you think all Polak was lacking over here was someone believing in him.

What Polak needed was someone to belt the sh!t out of him.

Exactely.

Johnson was playing loose man at the other end of the ground to counter Polak. Johnson played a much better game and once Thornton was moved on to Polak he did next to nothing. Polak played just as good as he did against us, as when he played for us in that loose man back role. He still couldnt get a game and when you see performances like Johnson's you can't expect that anything would have changed this year.

Godd Riddance

He looked good as a loose man in defence, but in a game where a dominant forward from the opposition marked everything that came his way, why wasn't Polak actually asked to man him up, or even play on him? Until he can take on one of the two best talls in an oposition forward line and beat them or at least break even, he is just an ordinary player.

Wallet has turned him into a third Bowden brother. Where was he when Pavlich was dominating or Headland was running rampant?

We've already got Jonno who plays the loose man role far better than the Two Pot Screamer. Happy to see the back of him.
