To help celebrate the birthday of this great nation, i will be having a BBQ on Monday.

I want to put together a difinitive ipod playlist of music from Australian bands.

This is where I need your help, can you suggest songs for the mix, they can be from any genre, so long as they are aussie (and not adopted aussie). Anything from AC/DC to Yothu Yindi (don't know any Z's)

Thanks
M.

I think VB brought out a few genre's of great Aussie band hits, specifically for a BBQ. Not sure if you can check this out, but maybe a pop into Sanity would be worth your while - just for some idea's of course. Downloading music's way cooler than buying it.

Some would say AC/DC are adopted Aussie;)

And Yothu Yindi would say that everybody else is adopted Aussie.

Off the top of my head.....The Zebras (great guitar pop band from Brisbane), The Zillions (the excellent lo-fi project of Nick Craft from Sidewinder), The Zimmermen (cult legend Sydney band from the late 80's).....

......well, you did say......

I disagree my friend. The computer is damn handy for research and compilations, but downloading is in no way superior to the pleasure of sharing the joy of an Album listen, or a flick through the liner notes, or a scratched vinyl copy of Powerage that gives 'gimme a bullet' just the right tone- and before you ask, yes, I am an old bastard.

I figured. ;)

They would be wrong

That's a more than fair point

But none of this is getting me closer to my playlist. I have (Pre BJ) AC/DC, The Oils, Goanna, Gangajang, Cat Empire, Casanovas, 1200 Techniques, MAW. Chisel, Barnsie, Icehouse, MGF, Wolfmother, Pendulum.

I know I need INXS (old), Hunters & Collectors, Little River Band, but i need a few more suggestions of bands and songs.

just a few worth mentioning, no particular genre or theme

The Saints, a brisbane punk band before there was punk in Australia, look up a song call 'Stranded', its a beauty

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, for some of their most revered tunes try anything off the 'Murder Ballads' album

Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes corker by the name of 'Rock and Roll is Where i Hide'

You Am I
all hail Tim 'the great man' Rogers, anything by them is doubly pleasurable as Timmy is clearly a dead set legend of kangaroo proportions.

Tex Perkins a friend of Tim and therefore a friend of the NMFC, rocks out too! try Dark horses the album.

Hilltop Hoods - best known aussie hip hop act, they're 'heaps good'.

Xavier Rudd incredible musician, one man band, very surfy/rootsy

Thanks for help Lidge, unfortunately the link didn't work.

Thanks Wombles, forgot I have best of Nick Cave. Also like the Hoods, but haven't got anything by them yet. Will take your advice on the others.

You forgot to mention Jet.

Replace Powderfinger with Delta.

And there you have it, the trinity of evil.

Not entering into this debate, but.......aaah, Metallica.

I implore you to watch the doco "Some Kind Of Monster".

Best laugh you'll have all year.

Got room for two more? How about The Angels & The Whitlams.;)

You're risking an attack from the mythical Australian outback creature, the roobear.

And, yep, there's always room for The Whitlams in any discussions of evil incarnate.

To avoid any moral issues - you could always hire a juke box - stacked 100% with Aussie tunes.

There's party hire companies out there that'll do that for you. Not cheap, but less exy than buying 50+ CD's in a single outing.

I'm a big boy and can handle roobear. Rose Tattoo are utter shite. The Angels I can tolerate. The Whitlams I like.
