As far as Australia goes, we need a government with nuts (could be ovaries also)

The answer is to tap into the Ord river...tidal power that could supply most of the country's power needs, irrigation for huge increases in food supply.

It will take considerably investment sure but it will create a sustainable future (energy and food) and actually make city folk to relocate to cash in on the spin off businesses etc that it would create.

Just need a government to start the ball rolling and put the plan in place (like a 20 year vision). Investment would then flow and we could have the richest pocket on the planet without a gram of iron ore being moved. Along this path also develop an industrial/manufacturing industry off the tidal power in the NW of WA, where we can make our own steel from our own iron ore, crazy thought I know.

Australia has a massive imbalanced ratio of city: country and you can't blame people moving to the city for education and work. Time for the government to step up and have some forward vision...

it will never happen under a democratic system pork barrelling our largest cities. what vote would you win by pork barrelling NW of WA?

Just need to ease congestion. Entice people to move away from the coast and to inland Aus.

Doesn't this whole damn argument come back to the poverty cycle anyway?

Those that are poorer have more kids because the survival rate is lower and they require more children to assist in sustaining a greater economic prosperity. Ultimately counter productive but that's why it happens

Those already prosperous tend to have less kids as it is.

Nope - it comes down to technology - which is always overlooked by proponents of these kind of theories. If technological advancement stalls - yes we have a problem. So far in the history of civilisation - it hasn't.

id say there would be an issue for the technology overtaking many of the career and economic prospects of those coming from lower socio economic backgrounds.
