Two of their last three goals came from umpiring decisions. We tackle a player to the ground, that's holding the ball, but no she's allowed to get back up and kick the goal. But the umps were red hot on us for htb. Houghton is scragged all game and nothing.

Just so sick of the biased umpiring in this comp.

We look exactly like last season. Basically a long way off in skill, athleticism, structure.

Might beat a few teams with our pressure, but until we have players that can find the ball and use it, we won't climb higher up the ladder.

A disappointing effort to start the season. That effort was back to 2023 stuff. We had 18 individuals all playing as individuals and not a hint of any system when moving the ball. Players like Scholz and O'Dea busted a gut getting the ball but had no one to give it too when they got it.

Despite last year's late season heroics Lauren Arnell still worries me. In her half time interview it appeared as if she thought it was a joke. A lot like Hamish Hartlett's attitude in the SANFL. On that performance we are going nowhere unless we can develop more system.

Freo were too tall and too strong in defence and almost every time we kicked into attack they marked with ease. We badly need some big bodies particularly in attack. Freo debutante Georgie Brisbane is a good example of the type of player our side needs. She is strong and can take a mark. Maybe we have a key player or two to come in from injury? I certainly hope so.

Hopefully we see some improvement next week. After a shaky start the girls improved rapidly last year so let's hope they can do the same in 2025.

I was at last week's trial aswell we have gone backwards I fear . Marking , handball and disposal skills in general were poor , I wonder if we do any competitive training at all ? Really missed Teakle, have we recruited any talls to replace her . I thought they tried their gutz out but disposal skills were very poor and Goals relied on individual efforts , we.ve gone backwards !

Arnells post match interview had hinks vibes of try hardery longery and blamed lack of pressure. To my eye it was system and forward 50 ineficiencies. Our tall forward personnel were non competitive apart from Houghton who had multiple opponents. If Arnell cant see this its a worry, this total focus on effort based football is unsustainable and outdated.

AFLW is an effort and talent based league, there are simply far too many basic skill errors to actually rely on a system. It's wide of the mark to be worried about game plan when a player from either team could fumble or shank a kick at any moment and throw the whole thing into chaos.

So from that perspective I think our effort was good (it always is) but we struggled for targets up forward. Teakle and Wendland were very badly missed. I would've thrown Tahau forward once it became apparent Freo's defence was getting on top but that was probably off the cards when Borg got injured anyway.

0-2 is not going to be a great start but it's recoverable if they keep the effort level high and get a few players back.
