There's no way the minor premier gets away with walking a player on a large 5 year deal to the PSD for free. That's a play they could have made last year, but not now.

Even with a front-loaded price on him, that's not an issue for West Coast, or any of the bottom 4 clubs, who struggle to spend their cap anyway.

Ridiculous empty threat. They'll fold tomorrow.

Then muppet crom supporters will claim the win and heap shit on Cripps.

Shit Geelong have offered Buckley the assistant job and letting him stay at Fox Footy - On the Coach as well as other analyst role stuff and also remain as part of their game day broadcasts.

They don't heck around at the crematorium at Geelong. Another unique ASA type set up so they don't have to replace Buckley's media wage and stay inside the soft cap.

He didn't mention his SEN role, but I assume he has to cut that out or reduced it to make it only 10-15% of his current role there.

It could be a Nick Stevens like scenario where they don't want to make a competitor better and think a 2nd rounder in a weak draft is a worthwhile loss to send a message.

JimmyBC - Port wouldn't have let Bucks stay as part of Fox Footy and be an assistant coach. That's why we wouldn't have approached him.

I wonder if the media will get all emotional, Daisy Peace style, when clubs ban him from change rooms and open training sessions?

It’s not like the AFL media to have conflicts of interest.

Got to be the worst trade period of the last few years by far
It feels worse because we have nothing much to do than bring in a couple of top up players.
It was always going to be running with the same team for next year.
I’d expect things to hot up at next seasons end.

Does Bucks go in oppo change rooms?? I can't recall him doing that. He's usually at the desk Fox Footy sets up at the ground and does pre and post game commentary.

Hell have to have at least a solid half year in the VFL before any AFL clubs consider him IMO.
Shouldn't matter if he has a solid 5 years in the VFL. His ability isn't the problem.

I don’t know, years ago maybe but footy is big business these days worth millions.
It’s not like rocking up to South Gawler for a kick and a beer.
Woman have a high profile within football not just as supporters and members but also with the AFLW.
I’m sure there would be some backlash if a AFL club took him on.
I honestly can’t see it.

Looks like Florent is a bit of a salary dump.

Signed up last year for 5 years to end of 2029. So its probably a $3m+ contract, with about $2.5m left, only played 16 games in 2025, didn't have a major injury, when Sydney had lots of injuries , especially in first half of the season.

So if he isn't a player Carlton really want, or need, and has 4 years left on a contract on decent money, its another reason why Carlton probably say no.

Edit Hayward signed last year for 5 years to end of 2029, but as a forward Carlton are more interested in him.

FUTURE TRADING RULE REMINDER

CLUBS have been reminded they are able to trade any future picks one year in advance without restrictions as huge deals hinge on final-day talks.

Under previous rules before clubs could trade two years in advance, they were only permitted to trade their first-round pick if they held their second- and third-round selections.

However, with this being the first year clubs are allowed to trade two years in advance, those requirements only have to be met for two years down the track.

The AFL has noted these rules at the end of last year to clubs and again earlier this season, but ahead of a frantic last day of the trade period, the League wrote a reminder to clubs they could dip into more selections in 2025.

"We have had several queries confirming the freedom to trade any future selections one year in advance (i.e in 2025 a club is able to trade a 2026 first round, 2026 second round and 2026 third round picks)," the memo said.

"For the sake of clarity … in relation to the relevant national draft one year in advance, a club may trade their future first, second and third round picks without restriction.

"As previously communicated, the restrictions on the ability to trade a future first-round or future second-round and future third-round picks only applies to the national draft two years in advance." – Callum Twomey

Win a flag - or 2 - and other clubs come after more than just your players

DECISION IMMINENT FOR LIONS BOSS

BRISBANE football manager Danny Daly is expected to decide his future in the next 24 hours as he weighs up staying with the premiers or moving to Gold Coast.

As reported by AFL.com.au in September, the Suns have made a bold bid to poach Daly from the Lions following the departure of Wayne Campbell, who has taken up a role with the Swans Academy.

Daly has been in demand over the past 12 months, knocking back approaches from West Coast and Melbourne to apply for its senior coaching positions, while also being approached by Collingwood about replacing Graham Wright as its footy boss.

Now he must decide whether to help Brisbane chase or a three-peat or the Suns hunt an inaugural premiership.

The 59-year-old has been a crucial cog in Brisbane's back-to-back flag after taking over from David Noble in late 2020.

Daly has been the trusted sidekick to Lions coach Chris Fagan and critical to the club's culture.

He has a strong relationship with Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick, stemming back to the five years they spent together at Richmond from 2010 to 2014 where Daly coached in a variety of positions.

Brisbane is doing what it can to keep Daly, having already transitioned the CEO role from Greg Swann to Sam Graham and lost forwards coach Stuart Dew to Port Adelaide. – Michael Whiting

Bucks has always been hungry for money, after his divorce he's even hungrier.
