Does anyone know why rounds 16-23 are floating fixtures at the moment? I could kind of understand it during COVID, but why now? It makes it difficult for fans, not knowing when their team is playing - just another in a long list of stupid decisions by this administration!!!

They want to schedule the best games for Thursday/Friday/Saturday night and will wait to see what happens with the next 10 rounds. Most fans do not want to see Carlton/Essendon/Port/Richmond/North in the prime night spots.

You say that, but thats factually incorrect, last year from round 16:

They had the 15th placed essendon 5 times on Thursday and Friday nights

And 11th placed Carlton for 5 times on Thursday and Friday nights.

They will spin it for the fans but it'll be no different from their plan if they released the full fixture togethet

Copy the NRL and make the TV broadcasters happier.

It was introduced for Covid. 2022 they only fix the first 9 rounds and then set the fixture either before or just after Rd 10. Since 2023 they fix in the first 15 rounds and then 4 weeks before Rd 15, they set the fixture for rounds 16 onward.

Labor Party must have got extra pokie entitlements from state governments or other gambling revenue. The reduction in gambling ads was recommended by the Parliamentary Committee chaired by the late Liberal politician Peta Murphy.

It was rejected by Albo and his government because TV and sports lobbied the government not to ban the ads, as ads helped fund TV owners as well as running the ads thru live sports coverage meant that TV companies have more revenue to pay for higher sports rights.

The 2023 Murphy report proposed a four-phase, three-year rollout to ban all online gambling advertising, including social media, online platforms, and in-stadia betting promotion, but Labor this year has been talking about caps.

Gambling ads to be partially restricted on television and radio, with opt-out rules for online promotions and a ban in stadiums and on jerseys under reforms unveiled by Labor.

Labor's plan includes a three-ad-per-hour cap on television broadcasts between 6am and 8.30pm, a complete ban during live sport broadcasts in that period and a ban on radio gambling ads during school pick-up and drop-off times.

Gambling ads would also be banned on online platforms unless users are logged in, are over 18 and have the option to opt out, while advertising using celebrities or athletes, odds-style ads targeting sports fans, and ads in sports venues or on players' uniforms would be outlawed.

• Ban celebrities and sports players from appearing in gambling adds and odds-style ads.
• Ban gambling ads from sports venues and on players’ and officials’ uniforms.

The point in bold seems particularly soft to me. Not sure if "broadcast television" includes streaming services either. It's progress I guess, but I would've hoped for more.

Super intrigued to see if Eleni umpires again this weekend. The Crows last touch decision got a lot of attention, but our general lack of interest probably let her incredibly bad umpiring performance slip under the radar.

Despite the several minor errors, the glaring paid mark to Reid that bounced and the non-mark to JHF, 2 clear and consequential decisions, should 100% see her dropped if the AFL had any gumption. It literally cost us a game of football. Probably a bonus for us in our tanking pursuit, but seriously that has gone way too far under the radar and she should be punished.

DEI policy chiefs at the AFL wont allow full accountability, given the lack of accountability over the male umpires.
