- Bock is absolutely shithouse at the moment
- Our midfield aren't just up to it
- We try and get out of the packs through handball only and refuse to have a quick kick to clear the area. This is also the fault of the setup, because we have more players around the stoppage and try and run it out. Problem is our midfield isn't good enough at the moment even with extra numbers
- When we were behind and needed goal we refused to go long down the middle from the backlines
- Cook doesn't add anything of value at all, stands the mark a lot, that says something
- Goodwin, Doughty, Bock and Rutten are leading the team in panicked handballs. This is not a good backline at the moment, I called this before the game
- Davis was great, him being hurt effected our structure greatly.
- Jaensch seemed pretty calm, not disgraced
-

I liked Jaensch. He tried to do something in the back pocket in the 3rd quarter but unfortunately for him, the backline was flooded :thumbsd:. Wouldn't mind seeing him in the side next week.

- Bock was brought in underdone - just returned from hamstring.
- yep, our midfield are playing crap - that's what McLeod was thrown in there, but he's getting old and can't withstand an entire game in the engine room.

.
...yep, Cooky has been bad. who else can we bring in instead though?
...yes, our backline was below average. perhaps it missed McLeod's run. Johncock seemed the only good player back there today.
...was Davis actually hurt? i know he got up gingerly after Johncock's speccy, but he played in the final quarter - gave away a free kick in the centre for high marking infringement. didn't get a possession for the quarter though.

and i don't know why Jaensch was playing defence, while Petrenko was up forward (on Paul Stewart of all people - seemed like a mismatch). why do Adelaide insist on playing natural defenders up forward, ie, Stevens and Petrenko??????

Seriously think Bock was that ordinary?

I thought him, Bock and Stiffy were pretty good.

Cooky too; faded badly, but was great in the first half.

Bock coughed up 2 goals directly because of him. The one to Westoff and absolute howler. I realise he had his hammy, but he wasn't good before that. He is not winning any of the 50-50 contests he used, losing just about everyone and not generating any run.

there can only be a few thoughts

Season over

Its time for the older players to be progressively retired, i'm not saying Golden passes i'm saying if its 50/50 it goes to the young player not the old one.

hopefully someone records the NC presser i'm interested to hear it.

Mcleod is good as an outside mid, he soft in the contest. That is the problem at the moment, we can't win any clean ball in the contest. What I would give to have a player like Rodan. Quite often we are first to the ball in the contest, but we can't break a tackle or our handball is deflected.

I saw Davis testing some sort of injury on the boundary line. Definitely wasn't right.

my thoughts

- when the game was there to be won weplayed safe and went into our shells again

- Bock, a very poor game, he punched when he was in position to mark, his attempt at a Russell Ebert type of H/B that cost a goal was embarrassing and he cost another goal whenhe justneeded to be cleaner.

- Doughty, Robbie Gray who is a modern day footballer showed all the football world that Dogga is now past his used by date.

- Burton, has to go, I admit he played well early however too many times he plays from behind looking for the ride. Forwards should play in front. Walker is our future not Birdman.

- Cook, this young lad hasnow had 6 games straight and although I do believe that he has a future he needs to get some awareness about himself,he may needa spell in the sanfl whwn Danger and D-Mac return.

- Jaensch, this guy lookslike a modern day footballer, please NC persist with him as he will only get better :thumbsu:

- Douglas, I thought the Pizza Boy was pretty lively and showed a bit

- Stevens, his selection was debated heavily however he did play well except for his kicking for goal

- Porpy and Tippy looked fantastic inthe first half, however when we started to play safe and wide in the 2nd half there opportunities dried up.

- Stiffy, was fantastic, I wish we had one at each end of the ground

- Edwards, best game for the year

- Radar, honorable mention

- Maric, we need to start playing 2 x ruckman to give Maric the support he needs

You guys need to replace Burton with Walker, slowly ease out these older guys throughout the year and blood some young guys, if you don't it will stop you from bouncing back in 2011, McLeod will be a huge loss though.

Tippett, Porps finally look match fit and will steal you a few wins in the coming weeks, but season over IMO.

Wish we stole Johncock off you guys when we had the chance, but then again our defence looks pretty settled now.

OMG, hopefully not another injury... since that seemed like the only good news to come out of the game (other than the obvious debut of Jaensch)

Elvis

I too thought Bock was average

He cost us 2-3 goals from either not being clean or poorly executing a skill, that Russell Ebert attempt H/B was very ordinary and missing that clean possession in the last was just as bad.

Re Cooky, I dont know what to think, part of me likes him however his lack of awareness is a real concern.. I rather keep playing him rather than the likes of Doughty

You lot have some serious issues atm.

Skills, pace (by foot), fitness and plan B are the main ones. The older players slowing down and injuries come after that but seem to be the ones that cop most of the blame.

Good:

Good 3 quarters. We did play some good and direct footy in those quarters when it wasn't congested as hell.

Johncock

Porps finding some more form.

Tippett likewise, we need them to firing

Douglas played okay.

Edwards finally did some good things. Still looks terribly slow now though.

Bad:

Bock looks out of sorts.

Burton was terrible today

Last quarter

Vince not a great game

Thommo alot of poor kicks

What the hell were you doing for 3 wuarters then.

Also, Cook is butchering the ball more and more. Love his pace and willingness to take the game on but thats no good when you butcher the end result.

Just knick off and stay on your own board. Your lot have a full squad to choose from and yet it took your lot 3 quarters to shake us off and we have at a minimum 7 players that would walk into our side.

At the end of the day, we had experienced players who badly turned the ball over today.

There are moments in a game that are pivotal and the one today was Burton in the last quarter when he should have taken the ball over the boundary line but instead kept it in, he was out of the contest and Chaplin walked away with it a goal resulted. An absolutely turning point.

Out - Doughty and Burton
In - Walker and Knights (let Petrenko do Doughty's job)

Well that hurt and hurt badly .......particularly when you have had your nose in front a lot of the day and scoring has been tough

It was said last night in the Bulldogs v St Kilda game that once players started to tire then the game would open up and scoring become easier

Well I think in part that happened to the Crows today due to the number of young un-hardened players in the side and players returning from injury ........but also the fact that Port had 20 tackles to our 10 in the last qtr ......doesn't the tackling problems have a familiar ring in 2010

Hows about a backline with this inexperience ...Davis, Jeansch, and Schmidt, plus the well underdone Bock who just made critical errors all day

Your not going to keep out good sides with that defensive make-up, even allowing for those players future potential .....fact is they're inexperienced AND they would have been dog tired in the last qtr due to the limited AFL training and matches they've played.

Again critical turnovers cost us .....and again it was the experienced players

Our midfield is decimated .... when you have Goodwin, Macleod and Edwards in there, you know we have monumental issues with the midfield

Vince and Thompson are mere shadows of their former selves .....both are carrying injuries, however their play is even worse than you would allow for given the niggles they're carrying

Thompson is quickly becoming the turnover king ......why he refused to kick the ball for most of the game MAY BE ATTRIBUTED TO HIS INJURY ......however could he get us into any more trouble with his handballs and the fact he's not going at 100% effort

Too few contributing which by the last qtr just catches up with you and you saw the result.

Crows B4 today have only kicked 56 points in last qtrs of 5 games ......what does that say about the amount of youth and underdone players we have in the team

Doughty: Seriously this player is gone ......he really looks as he's simply playing for his last season superannuation contract and going thru the motions.

He was soundly beaten today .....but what has irked me in recent times is this guy just does not take a risk!!! ......hasn't taken players on in any capacity for 1.3 seasons and simply kicks or handballs backwards .....SAFE SAFE SAFE ......well that was somewhat tolerable whilst he was not getting beaten by his opponents and not turning the ball over

Porplyzia: great first half .......but he suffered from lack of support and fatigue in the second half ....not his fault

Edwards: Best game for the year and was pretty steady without being a standout

Jeansch: First time I have seen him today and I was impressed

Sure he was completely lost out there .....hell coming from the rookie list it takes time for a new gameplan and too adjust to the speed of the game .....and a showdown is quicker again than a normal game

He made some awful mistakes .....but he certainly wasn't by himself in that regard ......but he did not drop his head once and looked as if he has some spunk and get up and go

Skills and leg-speed very good .....reminded me a bit of a Geoff Raines from Richmond days .......but I think he has some real upside

Schmidt: Well my views were made very early on this guy ......just a player

Thought I might have made a bad call with some reasonable performances BUT today in a real pressure game he was simply a spectator for most of the game trailing his opponent ....and failing to have any skills or weapons that you could say in a pressure game he would add something to a team

He's a vanilla, slow of mind player with hardly any tricks

Davis: Look we know this kid will be special ......he's just damn footy smart with great skills

But today he looked intimidated by the whole atmosphere and the pressure .....he'll learn from that and with kids you don't get consistency week in week out.

Cook: I have become a supporter after early doubts. He's still finding his way in the game and today he did some special things working thru packs and around players ....but he was also very quiet for large portions of the game

BUT he is getting better each week .....he is starting to use that pace a bit more, and you can see he is starting to believe in himself more as an AFL player

Reilly: without doubt our best midfielder AP and is having his best AFL season.

What I like is he is using his body more aggressively as an inside midfielder and his body is standing up

During his whole career he has been a great field kick .....but you can bet your house that on set shots for goal he will kick it on the outside of his foot and miss the right hand side of the goals ......hell if I can see it why hasn't he corrected that????

Vince: Gone from a power house midfielder to a bit player .....is it injury OR the fact he cannot deal with tags and the extra attention

Seemed to cope in finals last year so I will assume it's the injury .....and maybe he's not working as hard

Thompson: HUGE disappointment ....handballs more often that not .....hardly dangerous, is turning the ball over, giving unneccessary free kicks aways, and is not hurting teams when he has the ball

Clearances ....I'd like to see a stat comparison this year v last year, but IMO he is currently very poor

Tippett: Back to his dominant self .....just not getting good supply from one of the worse performing Crows midfields in the clubs history.

Stevens: IMO he justified his inclusion in the side .......kicking for goal was average, but he did add to the side today and there were many worse than him out there.

Douglas: Look his fitness has improved 30% which is giving him the ability for second efforts.

Is doing great things spasmodically thru games ......but consistency has been and continues to be his challenge

His good today was very good

Petrenko: Why does he always perform well in the last qtr?

He's got to get more dangerous when he gets the ball .....AP he is attacking the contest hard and adding as a linkman in general play ......but he doesn't hurt the opposition with his disposals

Maric: Keep your feet son!!!

Beaten in ruck most of the day ....did some useful things around the ground

Macleod: Good game and he continues to standout as the one player that ATS would be guaranteed of another contract for 2011

We lost the game because of our inability to run in the last half. No one wanted to run, no one. Felt sorry for Jaensch in that 5 minute period in the third term, NO ONE WAS MOVING. He tried to take the game on, his skills rarely let him down, but he was at the very least trying to take the game one.

Jaensch played a very defensive role in the first half and did well. He stood on Carr, Pearce, Ebert, Boak for little periods, none really did much while he was on them. First half defensive he was good. Second half opponents got away from him a bit but he gave it his all out there. 5 tackles, good commitment to the contest, did some very nice things and ocassionally showed his pace. He'll only get better, a decent start today!

And Neil Craig, you spud. Leaving Johncock on the bench for the first 5 minutes of the last quarter was a disgrace. He’d been our best player for the day and Port kick three goals in 5 minutes with our best player sitting on the pine. Dead set moronic decision.

Burton, you spud, retire now. But he was "solid" so it's all good. Doughty, my goodness, horrible.

Pathetic, 0-6.

pretty much sums up my thoughts, Sloaney.

turnovers from senior players that directly result in goals (bock, burton, i'm looking at you) killed us today.

Bock has a pseudo-excuse - coming back from injury. Burton needs to go.

Overall I liked your recap but...

It's laughable how you can have a crack at Schmidt when he was EASILY one of our best players today.

My goodness, just because he doesn’t have blistering pace or can boot goals from 85 metres out doesn’t mean he’s a spud. Very solid player, dependable, you know what you’re going to get from him. In our top 3-4 players.
