Port to sack Choco

Does Rucci have "blood on his hands"?

This could turn super ugly ... how many assistants will stay? Port can't afford to pay them all out.

No farewell game ..what are they thinking ?????:D

Wonder how he would go as a development assistant coach ?

At GWS you mean? There is also talk he might get an AFL job helping with the development of indigenous players and helping them to get into coaching.

Can't see him being happy with any job where he is playing second fiddle to someone, although if he was second to Sheedy then he is perhaps more likely to be coaching while Sheedy spruiks, with an eye to taking the senior role once Sheedy is gone in a couple of years.

While I think his brand of coaching and football would work to pull a young team into line (I thought Fremantle should have gone for him when they were a rabble pre-Harvey) GWS definitely need someone better at the media and PR level - Sheedy now, but who after he's gone?

This is big news if true:eek:.

You knew it was gonna come sometime though. You can't admit that you'll expect to get sacked and be suprised when you actually do.

Looks like my plan to pass the hat around at a Crows home game to keep him on isn't going to materialise in time.

Whatever his merits as a coach (and he was a premiership coach), the power struggles at Alberton have destabilised the club, so it's a shame for us that that won't keep simmering away.

One other thought - is it too early to call for coach Rooch? It's got a certain ring to it....:D

Suggestion that they will use one of the assistants until the end of the year and see if that works. You would think if they got someone else in after that then that person would want to bring in some of his own assistants, and besides I'd be surprised if they all survived the inevitable review..so yes, it could end up costing a bit. Shows how much they think it could cost them if they don't make changes.

Laidley would coach the remainder out, wouldn't he? Also read a statement that Port are requesting aspiring coaches to come to them if they want the job (in other words, they won't be looking!????).

They can probably only afford the ones who will come looking for the job!

Will be interesting to see if any Board members fall on their sword - a big turnaround to the 2 year extension last year.

Two big Port stories in two seasons Caro and Mike Sheehan have reported and Rooch has missed.

Both had articles this morning predicting this. Nothing over here in our paper.

Similar to last year with their AFL grant they got. Caro had the scoop.

Or he chose to not report it.

Looks to me like Choco has used his native cunning to come out on top. By forcing Port to sack him now, he gets his contract paid out (rather than a negotiated settlement if he quit) AND is available for any new jobs that emerge this year - Weagles? Essendon? (Knights was defending his relationship with his players this week, and Williams has history there).

In the meantime he can trot up to GWS to back-up Sheedy, and if nothing else occurs will probably finish up head coach there.

Clever.

The only reason is this is surprising in any way is that everyone pushing for his removal have lost their voice and accepted he'd be there as long as tenable.

News of Williams' quitting has spread around the world
