Game Day Port v Brisbane Game Day Thread

Lions with heart and tenacity we've lacked for years.
Yet you had it over us in spades through the first three quarters, consistently going in lower and harder. It just looked like you either ran out of legs or have forgotten how to win. Was a bit reminiscent of us last year, actually. Bad luck guys. Some of your kids looked great though - Wingard looks a keeper.

Boak needs to take a fair bit of the blame for that loss. His direct tagging opponent ran off him too much and found space too often. Boak let us down considerably at the end. No-one should forget that today when giving votes.
Well most probably the worst post in the last month. You young man know nothing. Blokes at the top
of the tree. Thomas didnt have the greatest game either, but to abuse him for having no defensive skills are wrong. Now run off and finish your finger painting project.

Thomas doesnt do anything defensively? That's a bit rich.

But what does it achieve? He bangs in and attacks the footy but rarely locks it up or shuts down an opponent. Also vulnerable in the air.

Logan is similar, throws himself to ground at contests and charges headlong at aerial contests but usually watches from the deck as his opponent runs off or out marks him comfortably.

At some stage we have to realise these types are not going to improve as individuals or our team in any capacity.

Going in hard is all about what you do after you make impact. Just hitting hard isn't enough if you have a lie down.

Ace King
Anna Kournikova
Travis Boak is like holding Ace King pre-flop
Like Anna, and looks good, but but never wins

It's all about the whipping boys copping it sweet huh? And our highest paid players getting away with no accountability.. Ridiculous

Disappointing, but there were good(ish) signs today.

Wingard has always been pretty lively when he has played this year, but I was really pleased that he found so much of it today over four quarters, because his poise and class really stand out from the pack. More of that please, great effort.

Justin Westhoff, 9 tackles and a couple of goals to go with it. He frustrates and sure he is just as likely to play a shocker next week, but I like him and 199cm players who can do that generally are hyped up no end. Stop the talk of delisting him please.

Boak - 25 disposals, 9 tackles and a goal. Too much needed to be done by too few in the midfield.

Broadbent in the goals again, another pretty good game from him.

Schulz has been to hell and back this year, so it's a bloody magnificent effort to be back out there and playing this year. 2.3 though, I hope he can get his radar back on.

Lobbe 29 hitouts and a goal vs Hudson 38 hitouts. Beaten in the ruck, but not by as much as some were predicting.

There were some genuinely good games today from quite a few of our players, unfortuantely there is way too much of the 10 disposals, no tackles etc. from players who just don't offer enough.

Brisbane are heading in the right direction and have been playing some good footy. I guess it makes it more disappointing that we were overrun so easily in the end, but I hope we take a leaf out of their book and start getting some ****ing forward momentum soon rather than the one step forward, five steps back bullshit that we have been putting up with.

Fitness is an absolute disgrace. This MUST be fixed this pre-season. It's killing us.

Purely and simply ran out of legs. Agreed we are down on quality, but we arent that far away. Absolutely wrapped today in Lobbe, Carlile, Wingard and Young. Great heart shown by all. Should have played small with Banner and Phillips, as the conditions were ideal. Liked the improvement from those mentioned. Just not the outcome.

Look I don't care. The same spuds are probably contracted for nek minnit anyway, so let's aim for the stars... 8 wins!

Look I am all for guys like Logan and BMT McCarthy especially copping it they cop it every week sometimes unfairly...but our highest paid players just go through ho hum...it's just a broken record..

Interesting game.

For those people bashing Logan, Thomas etc. they need to get a reality check. We need a few of these tough nuts. I thought Logan in particular was quite good and won, or positively impacted on numerous contests. Thomas seemed to be a bit slow today.

My main beef was with McCarthy. Was absolutely horrible today. Fumble after Fumble, horrible skills - this kid has gone backwards extremely fast. He needs to be dropped, he's a shadow of the player that came from Collingwood.

Pfeiffer, reads the play reasonably well, but his marking is atrocious. How many chest marks does this fellow drop? He was another serial fumbler. He needs to SERIOUSLY work on his skills over the pre-season. There are kids running around in under 15's with better skills than this bloke.

Young impressed today, with exception again, of a few dropped marks/fumbles. But his attack on the footy was excellent, and really the first i've seen of this from him over 4 quarters.

Wingard was brilliant, as was Boak.

Rodan got moved to the backline, and his influence wained. I don't know what it is about him, but he really struggles to get going for 4 quarters. Perhaps he should be the sub.

:thumbsu: Great summary. Read it and thought, yes.

Tough and accomplished don't have to be mutually exclusive.

These two have been ever-present for the derp era and have maybe 5 good games between them.

Agreed, i would like to see them both move on after next week. For their own benefit though.

John Makenroe. YOU CANT BE SERIOUS. FFS How much more could he have given.
hey, i told you i Like boak

but when will some people understand you only win games, you only win premierships with MATCHWINNERS

we have seen 1, maybe 2 games his entire career with us when you could say he was a matchwinner. (was it vs north or melbourne at AAMi earlier this year when he kicked a goal or 2??)

this is nothing about "giving more".

again, today, when it mattered, he didn't deliver.

westhoff is the world guiness champion of not deliver. he's the courier that delivers your christmas present on the 27th when it just doesnt matter anymore

junk time stuff

boak is terrific player, but not a matchwinner

do we keep him and build / find a matchwinner to come into the side, or trade him now while he still has (valuable) currency?

i dont think its unreasonable to be objective about every player

If we get a decent trade I'm not going to cry a whole heap about Boak going, but if he stays that is also ok.

Thats about as strongly as I feel about keeping any player on the list right now.

 As above, terrible. Paint me a picture of a rainbow can you. people need to realize just how many players want out. If they do, or we have a huge cull:oops: we have 5 to 7 years of rebuilding. The AFL wont wait that long. Plain and simple.

Thomas - nine disposals.
Pfeiffer - ten.

Neither do anything defensively, so what the f**k are they out there for.

I don't think a new coach can keep Pfeiffer on the list tbh. His dropped marks, fumbling and blind kicks are now too bad. Get him out of there, along with Logan, Thomas, McCarthy and Rodan who all suck. If Cassisi can join them, fantastic!

Hallelujah! Someone else who finally agrees Pfeiffer is NOT AFL standard. I never want to see that chest mark spilling, fumbly 3 touch spud in our guernsey ever again. I don't care how much he "tries", he is SHIT. Hence being delisted twice already. About to be 3 if this club is serious about improving. Dud dud dud.
