Just when Cripps was perilously close to being the next Priddis on here, he goes and has himself
a 5 goal haul and plays an important role in the teams success. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
Maybe Darling can do the same...

He got in a better position, which was in front of Darling when he fumbles it.

Don't disagree with any of this, but probably missing the point of my post.

Sunday was one of the very few games this year where we played a smaller fwd line than normal. Only two "bigs" with Williams only down there for only about 1/3 of the game. Might just be a coincidence, but probably not, that our smalls all had some of their better games given they had much more prominent roles to play.

The only other game this year that we've structured up similarly was the Carlton game. That game also happened to be Ryan, Langdon and probably Jones's best games of the year.

Id like to see more of it
We have little to no defensive pressure in our forwardline when its Kennedy, Darling, Allen, Ryan and Cripps and then add a resting ruckman at times.
I dont think Ryan should get a pass as having a great game. He got onto a few goals by the end but if you read the game day thread or watch him closely, he was disinterested for the majority of the game.

We can thank West, Langdon and Petch for any forward pressure we had and to a lesser extent Cripps, in the Adelaide game.

As you say, definitely a better structure with one less tall down there. Allen may not agree though. A bit more attention on him and he didnt look good at all.

Agree on most of that. I reckon Allen needs a rest, but he most definitely isn't ready to just walk up and replace JK. He can provide a contest though and that may be all we need.

Disagree on Ryan (and relying on the match day thread for an accurate summation). 16d, 10marks and 3.4 is a good day for any small fwd.

He was getting potted on here for not spoiling a ball through the defensive goals at one stage. Our small fwd pocket shouldn't be relied on to spoil a ball on the defensive goal line, and he's sure as hell not lazy if he's down there to do it.

Hopefully it's just a case of a younger player getting tired and struggling as the season drags on, which is not uncommon.

Nah, first half he was sooking because things didn't go his way. He started to get into it as the ball came to him in 3rd quarter, then fired up as he got on top. Just goes to show how damaging he is when he gets into the game.

I think that applies to the full team, Softie;) Simmo may have baked a cake for half time

I want your opinion on this as I think this is the only way that Edwards is in the side assuming Barrass and Mcgovern are fit.

Everyone here should at this stage know I am one of, if not Rotham's biggest supporter, think he's a great young player and third tall.

I do however feel that we can only play a max of 3 talls counting Rotham as a tall in defence. We don't have enough run and carry as it is, having 4 talls down back plus shep and hurn is just too much. So the question is do we play the best team or the best 22. As far as im concerned Rotham is easily in the best 22 as that third tall and a better player than cole, nelson, witherden etc.

However if we are looking at playing our best side with a fully fit best 22 is our best team actually Edwards at FB, Barrass at CHB and Mcgovern as third tall? You then obviously have Duggan, Hurn and Shep filling the other roles with a defender on the bench. Do you pick the better player in Rotham or do you pick the best setup for the side.

For me you play the best side, not the 22 best players so I would player the above setup with Cole as the 7th defender based off of the weekends performance. The above fully fit also allows either Gov or Edwards to second ruck in defence as I don't think Williams is ready yet.
I think we look more balanced without Barass. He cant kick for shit, his go to is the kick around the body to anywhere.Great mark but cant seem to get the balance right between spoiling and marking and contesting with Guv.Edwards looks real good.Big bodied and well balanced.

I didn't see that performance coming from Cripps, hopefully his form before was mainly due to low confidence.

Think Langdon had a lot to do with the forward pressure. We joke about corralling a lot but the kid runs his guts out to any co test he can get near, I rate his role in the team given the balance he provides.

Agree.

I think he's been getting a bit of an unfair rap on here for a while. Yes, he struggles to kick over distance and hasn't scored a lot of goals, but his pressure and running and getting to a contest and having an influence on the contest has been second to none in our forward line.

Was a good effort, but lets see him back it up next week and the week after. He had like 9 shots on goal. The team had around 35 shots on goal, we would usually have half that. Ryan about 7 or 8 shots on goal, Yeo 3, Petch 4 or 5, Darling 3 or 4, Oscar 4 or 5. It was crazy. Kudos to him for kicking the only bag but when the entire forward line and half the mids could of all been multiple goal kickers but weren't 5 looks he was the difference but I don't think that was really the case, we won by 7 goals. Cripps was also playing against a first gamer wasn't he?

Negative. Watched the replay, with all of Shuey Yeo Kelly West Sheed LEdwards in the side Simmo still found a way to put Gaff in the centre for at least one bounce that I saw. Yuk.

Cripps pressure pretty much lead to Petruccelle's goals, as well as helping Darling kick our opener.

He is often sprinting out on the wings and can't get back to lock the ball inside 50. He lead the league a few times for tackles in f50, so when he's in there he's brilliant.

He had more tackles inside 50 and more forward 50 ground ball gets than the others. If he was used as a more defensive forward again he'd outshine the others easily for defensive attributes.

I think having West as a HFF sort of gives us two versions of Cripps, it was awesome seeing someone else up forward who can stick a tackle.
